Lane Kiffin's Honesty

my comment was that unless we get some plays or a qb who can complete a pass we will score no points. which means we will lose most of the rest of our games. is that easy enough for you to understand. so somehow our coach is going to have to find better plays or pray to god to put some points on the board. or maybe the defense can score.

No.

Man I remember when Lane was assistant to the water boy when he was with the Jaguars not long ago. Lane is everything because of his father. Monte called Tom Coughlin and asked him to make a position for him. Heck Lane would not be at UT if his daddy did not come along with him. I still have not figured out how a program as good as Tenn hired him? I think Lane will be to Tenn as Ron Zook was to Florida.

Ron Zook had Rex Grossman and Chris Leak. Kiffin has two quarterbacks that aren't as good as those two were in middle school.

Pete Carrol, Bob Stoops, Nick Saban(LSU and Bama), and Jim Tressel all stuggled their first year.

We haven't recruited this well in a long time. Just give us two years...

...And I don't think any of the above had a worse QB than ours. The QB position is our biggest problem and has been for quite sometime. This coaching staff is good will get it together, but not until they get a new QB and it's not their fault, this is what they inherited.

The truth is if we would have ran the ball up the middle every play after the score was 7-3 we would have won the game. I really enjoyed watching our defense play and I do not think they would have scored another point if not for the turnovers, but i do not think we are going to have 4 turnovers every game and still see this team going around 8-4 and playing in a bowl game.

Honesty is nice, but did Kiffin give any details on why UT should have beaten UCLA by 14? He's basically saying he had the better team when 24 hours earlier that was proven to not be the case.

QB play and interceptions is what he said. But you took what you needed and won. Good win for you.

what a cute tag under your username. Not only are you a loser hanging out on an opponent's site, but you have the gayest tagline in the history of the sports world, mens ice skating included.

I just watched the replay of the Lane Kiffin show and I must say it was refreshing to hear his honesty and see the fire in his eye from losing. The comments about the players if their not sick and can't sleep because of the loss if their not feeling that way their not the type of players we want here was strong.

At this rate though, his eyeballs will burn out by the end of the year! :eek:lol: Seriously though, everyone needs to chill and give them time. Lane is just a pup. He'll learn and get better.

There's a reason why they call it rebuilding. Rome wasn't built in a day. He's putting together a monster recruting class right now. If we are still this bad in a couple of years I'll be one of the first ones on here calling for Lane's head. Until then, Coach Kiffin and his staff have my full support.

Was putting my thoughts together for a reply to this nonsense poster. But, having read this, can't say it any better.

While I agree with you that UCLA does not have a great team this year, and maybe not even a good team, I find it hard to conjure up seven losses for the Bruins.

The Bruins play Kansas State at the Rose Bowl next Saturday. Kansas State just lost to Louisianna Lafayette, so a 3-0 start for UCLA seems reasonable.

Down the road Stanford, Washington, Washington State look beatable. That would be 6 wins.

The Bruins get Oregon and Cal at the Rose Bowl and usually do well against them there. So let's say they win one of those two. That's 7 wins.

A 5-7 record after a 3-0 start would be REALLY disappointing.

Finally, who do you think will have a better record by the end of the year, UCLA or UT? If the SEC is as tough as everyone says it is, won't it be hard for UT to win without a QB that keeps other defenses honest?

Wouldn't Vol fans want UCLA to go undefeated the remainder of the season anyway?

i was talking about us

I don't know what else he could have done. He gave Crompton a chance to redeem himself and he failed. The run game wasn't working because they were putting 8 in the box to stop it. What else was there for him to do?

he could have tried stevens. if he wasn't going to let crompton throw he could have put nuke in to atleast give us another runner in the backfield. halfback pass maybe a reverse stuff that actually keeps the defense honest. any of the above may have atleast got the safties out of the box. he could have tried.

I agree! I love this coach!! And I am absolutly sick of all these threads saying, Kiffin exposed, will Kiffin lose the fans, blah blah blah!!! I would love an undefeated year with a BCS NC but it aint gonna happen. I've said it once and I'll say it again, give this staff time to get their players in here and we will be back on top period! No matter what happens the rest of this season, I'm not throwing this staff under the bus. We have a ton of studs that are true Fresh and will have another great class comin in next year, we are on our way. Just give it time!

AMEN! Good Post!

I'd rather have wins than "refreshing honesty."

me too, but our new phrase in tennessee according to most of the posters on here is " there is always next year ". i hope it is better than this year. i guess that means bray is our starting QB next year, because if stevens starts and he is that bad we shouldn't win a game next year. just my thoughts. i guess we are shooting for 2 to 3 years down the road.

one thing everyone has to remember is that if kiffin and co. didnt have a lot of work to do with this team he wouldnt be coaching here. fulmer would still be the coach because we weren't 5-7 last year. a coach can't be fully measured until he has a chance to bring in what he needs to bring in for his system to be fully operational. we will have a lot more ups and downs this year(seems like more downs) but i for one am still pumped for it and whatever else the future holds.

Crompton missed a wide open Gerald Jones for a TD. He also missed a wide open TE for a TD and we had to settle for a field goal. That's on Crompton, not playcalling. He makes those two plays and we win.

Hence, Lane's comment: "We should've won by 14 points."

he could have tried anything. trick plays anything. the man really let the tennessee faithful down. honestly that was one of the worst coached games i have ever seen. if nick stevens is no better than crompton, well that means we have 2 more losing seasons coming.

I suppose that it is Kiffin's fault that we only have Crompton and Stephens at qb.
Listen buddy, you better wake up and realize that this is a long term project. Why long term? Because of the mess that was made by our beloved former head coach. All I can tell you is that you are going to be in for a miserable ride until RECRUITING gets this staff the players it needs to open up the play book and that is still a couple of years away.

We are not giving the UCLA coaching staff and players enough credit in this discussion. They had a perfect game plan which was to stop our running game with eight in the box and make Crompton beat them through the air. They covered our receivers well and did not let the primary receivers get open. They had obviously watched enough film on Crompton to know that if you cover the reciever that he is glued to he will make stupid mistakes and throw into double and triple coverage or bounce the pass to the receiver. They executed their offense with a freshman quarterback that was well prepared on the game plan and we made him look like an All American. Florida also has a smart coaching staff and just guess what their game plan will be The secret will be if Kiffin and staff can find a way to get the ball to playmakers in the open.

problem is this isnt the big ten. the rest of the sec recruits as well as we do. it will come down to coaching. i can tell you if legend or satan was at the helm on saturday they would have won. they did it in there first year, and i know meyer had all kinds of talent, but satan did not.

yeah - that 6-6 record of "satan" really brought it home- how about that home loss to Louisana - Monroe?

Meyer had a ton of talent left from Zook - especially on defense....your an idiot.

zook recruited very well at florida. look it up idiot. and yes satan did go 6-6 with that horrible loss, but look at what he had on that team. we will probably go 5-7 this year and next unless bray bails us out. how can some of you call yourself a vols fan attacking other posters. what a joke. what was satans record the next year champ.

Evidently reading and comprehension don't work for you...so I will say it again Meyer had a ton of talent left from zook.

so what on sabans first team is much different than where we find ourselves now? I would be more than happy if UCLA were our LA-monroe this year.

I know saban's record in his 2nd season, but why would that even make an entrance into this discussion. We are two games in with Corky for a QB - no basis for comparison at this point.

Honesty is nice, but did Kiffin give any details on why UT should have beaten UCLA by 14? He's basically saying he had the better team when 24 hours earlier that was proven to not be the case.

It's a very curious thing for a defeated coach to say especially after a game that seemed very even. IMHO Kiffin is trying to keep the UT fan base happy by supporting their belief that the Vols are automatically better than everybody they play who is not in the SEC.

I am not saying that what he said was a bad public relations move. What he said may have been smart from that standpoint. But you just don't hear that type of response often from a defeated coach.

Finally, would Kiffin have said that if the Bruins were on the UT schedule next year?

Not a big deal and nothing worth losing sleep over but just curious.

If you go back and watch the game, you will see what Lane meant. On two plays (with us inside the red zone), we had two receivers wide open (in the end zone). One receiver was a tight end (we had two tight ends on that play), and the other was number 45, who ran a route underneath the coverage.

Look guys, these kids played their hearts out, and nobody quit. Lane did an excellent job of play calling; those are the facts. It will all get even better with time.
