Lane Kiffin's Honesty

Crompton missed a wide open Gerald Jones for a TD. He also missed a wide open TE for a TD and we had to settle for a field goal. That's on Crompton, not playcalling. He makes those two plays and we win.

i agree with that, but since he couldn't make the plays why didn't he try stevens. they were even coming into the season. he might have played better. if all we have is crompton then the season is over.

Kiffin does treat the fans with respect, by being honest with them in his commentary.

Are you sure you're a Volunteer fan? Is this Steve Spurrier? You jokester!! I caught you.

mark it down. defensive coordinators are going to key on this all year. we will only score 3 to 7 points a game. it's common sense, i take it you never played football.

Lane said they were even, but scrimmage stats sure didn't seem to bear that out. Nick is supposed to be an INT machine.

We'll play teams with crappier defenses and Crompton will have an easier time.

I believe there is a reason Lane Kiffin is head coach and not you my friend. Kiff PUBLICLY said he is not rotating quarterbacks in the middle of the game. If you think you can do better, go apply for the UT head coaching job.

i don't think i can, but i'm not going to stick my head in the sand and pretend we are not going to get blasted by 40 by the gators next weekend. with no qb, there won't be any offense.

Dude, what the hell. Ten minutes ago, it was the coaching staff's fault. Now it's the QB? You flip flop more than John Kerry

Well once you're ready to get your sorry ass off your high horse and talk to us like you aren't the God of football then i'll be ready to talk.

Oh and PS we never got on the subject of defense and how many points we will score. You were on the subject of trash talking the coaching staff and QB. Way to change subject though

not on a high horse just stating what i saw at the game on saturday. you must be the god around here. not saying your wrong, but i have a feeling by the end of the season i'll be proven right like last year. by the way kiffin was my first choice for coach.

No i'm not a god. I believe in God. But more on the subject, I believe in our coaching staff. more than what can be said for you. Have fun on my ignore list. Good luck with all your mighty knowledge.

Bottom line.
If we have 2 plays to score from 2 yards away against a pac 10 team after a 17 play drive..3 and out...and 13 play drive..
We have no business winning.
The o line didn't do a great job, crompton was awful, no rb ever broke anything...no wr made a huge play.
The team didnt make plays...well the offense.
The d played well enough.

Young team learning.
Next week is going to be ugly as well guys but this will still be an ok season.
The future is bright

my comment was that unless we get some plays or a qb who can complete a pass we will score no points. which means we will lose most of the rest of our games. is that easy enough for you to understand. so somehow our coach is going to have to find better plays or pray to god to put some points on the board. or maybe the defense can score.

There's a reason why they call it rebuilding. Rome wasn't built in a day. He's putting together a monster recruting class right now. If we are still this bad in a couple of years I'll be one of the first ones on here calling for Lane's head. Until then, Coach Kiffin and his staff have my full support.

i agree with that and i'm not calling for his head by any means. i was just shocked at the way the game was called on saturday. i guess i just expected more. just have to lower my expectations for acouple of years i guess. also if you listen to kiffin he says we are not rebuilding. i know he is probably saying that for the players benefit, but they just look really bad.

:good!:

I love these fans who want to crucify the coaching staff because they didn't swap qbs. Our staff spends 20 hrs/day breaking down film and game planning. Yet some guy on a message board who maybe watched a practice session thinks he has a better game plan.

Kiffin has already showed if you have talent you play. Obviously, Stephens doesn't have the talent. I think I'm gonna side with the coaches on this one.

We are gonna take our lumps this year. We will improve every game.

GO VOLS!!!!!

I don't know what else he could have done. He gave Crompton a chance to redeem himself and he failed. The run game wasn't working because they were putting 8 in the box to stop it. What else was there for him to do?

which will lead to a 5-7 season and alot of questions.

While I agree with you that UCLA does not have a great team this year, and maybe not even a good team, I find it hard to conjure up seven losses for the Bruins.

The Bruins play Kansas State at the Rose Bowl next Saturday. Kansas State just lost to Louisianna Lafayette, so a 3-0 start for UCLA seems reasonable.

Down the road Stanford, Washington, Washington State look beatable. That would be 6 wins.

The Bruins get Oregon and Cal at the Rose Bowl and usually do well against them there. So let's say they win one of those two. That's 7 wins.

A 5-7 record after a 3-0 start would be REALLY disappointing.

Finally, who do you think will have a better record by the end of the year, UCLA or UT? If the SEC is as tough as everyone says it is, won't it be hard for UT to win without a QB that keeps other defenses honest?

Wouldn't Vol fans want UCLA to go undefeated the remainder of the season anyway?

Believe me, I have learned that without a quality QB it is VERY TOUGH to score in Division 1 college football no matter how good the coaching is. (I still call it Division 1 - does anybody else?)

The Bruins have not had a decent QB since Cade McNown, except for the one Drew Olson 11-2 year. Other than that one year, since 1998 the QB's at UCLA have been mediocre to pathetic.

When your QB cannot be consistently productive there's just not a lot you can do with your offense other than switch to the option. College defenses are just so quick nowadays that you need a good QB to keep them honest. Otherwise they stack the box, as another poster has written.

It's frustrating because the only real solution is to recruit a better QB.

Man I remember when Lane was assistant to the water boy when he was with the Jaguars not long ago. Lane is everything because of his father. Monte called Tom Coughlin and asked him to make a position for him. Heck Lane would not be at UT if his daddy did not come along with him. I still have not figured out how a program as good as Tenn hired him? I think Lane will be to Tenn as Ron Zook was to Florida.
