I've always considered it to be a sign of respect to call a coach, "Coach X" - and disrespectful not to do so.
If so, how come everyone in the local media continually calls him, "Lane" - including Bob Kesling in the course of, "The Lane Kiffin Show"?
Can you imagine someone calling Saban, "Nick", or Meyer, "Urban"? I don't recall anyone ever calling Fulmer, "Phil", either.
What's the deal with, "Lane"?
