Lady Vols Softball

So... Turner isn't quite where we need her to be, we struggle without Rogers and Seggern and Ally are in a slump?

But we've fixed SS and aggressive hitting, baserunning and defense by Ayala, Hannon and Milloy are the bright spots?

CS is really struggling. Her fielding and hitting has become mental at this point. Took 2 pitches right down the middle, then swings at one in the dirt. Ouch.

She wasn't able to practice or hit until the week before the first game after a procedure in the fall. I think she'll come around, but it's tough without the usual ramp-up and it's certainly an adjustment at the plate. That she's hit as well as she has to this point is her pure ability.

Tennessee led the SEC in fielding % until today (they're still second after booting it all over today). A day where they fielded like it's 2020 again is certainly concerning, but the body of work to this point says it's who they are. It does seem like they subconsciously feel the pressure to be perfect when someone other than Ashley is throwing, but they've also backed up a couple of no-hitters this year that she didn't throw.

Well just watched up til the 4th and then checked the score. One, obviously you can’t beat top teams with last years d. Big point in game was ump not giving Callie any outside strikes to get them going. And, of course you have to score when opportunity is there especially with less than two outs. Play a clean game is Bama that much better? I don’t think so other than some pitching depth. Go get them tomorrow!!

Part of Chelsea’s problem is she trying to go around outside pitches too much. I would drop her in order for awhile to take some of the pressure off.

Their staff is not intimidating at all

Like LSU's is? Their staff isn't that impressive at all and they don't have any intimidating pitchers. They're all just junk pitchers which is pretty much all LSU has had since Britni Sneed back in the day.

I'm not worried about teams like Florida (or Arkansas). They aren't on our schedule. However, Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina and Kentucky are. Georgia has a team ERA that is almost half of what LSU's is. Auburn's team ERA is lower than LSU's. South Carolina has a nearly identical ERA to LSU's, and Kentucky's is only a smidge higher.

I would throw Arkansas in there as well!

Arkansas is similar to Tennessee. They have a fantastic ace in Mary Haff, but the rest of their staff is quite shaky. Just like if we lost Rogers, take out Haff and their staff is nothing to be afraid of.

We basically won't be winning many (if any) games this season against good-great teams without Rogers -- or unless we get lucky and get some good teams turning in crappy performances. God knows we can't count on the team to perform offensively against even above average pitching (that's pretty much status quo for our program if we're being honest), so our only shot is hoping Rogers is on, our defense is solid and we can score a few runs, exactly like what happened against Bama in the first game. Thankfully we don't play Florida this season.
