Lady Vols Softball

The one time transfer rule in all sports goes into effect tomorrow. We need pitching and a second baseman come on down.

The rule already existed for softball. Only applied to sports where you had to sit out for a year. It changes nothing for softball.

They already have a second baseman, Thompson was injured in the fall, but was going to be the starter there. She's as good at the plate as West and very strong defensively.

No I don’t think so but they are going to have to be careful with her. She was effective then back/? started bothering her. Amanda is going to be borderline she might get back by late season.

Not a back injury and I'm not aware of her being reinjured today. But she's still down velocity-wise from last year. If she wants to pitch at this level, she's going to have to commit to the strength and nutrition program to get bigger. Otherwise, she's going to get passed up. Her change up is light years better than last year, but her other pitches are getting hit harder. Her technique has improved, and I think Megan has improved her mental approach, but I think there is a disagreement in the amount of physical development she needs between the staff and her family. That's not uncommon at the college level, but it is a hindrance to players getting the most out of their abilities.

Ayala should be back in a week or two, at least that's the thinking right now.

Something is physically wrong with her how she got there can be debated but she was hurting after coming out today.

Gotta love parents who think they know more than college staffs....Lexi Kilfoyl and Shannon Saile from the same area have no problems with getting the right development in the weight room but these parents think they know better :rolleyes:

Years of impact and no rest. Mine battled SI joint issues at an early age and still does extra self care conditioning/Therepy to take care of her body, back and hips. I knew it was an issue for Turner before the season started but I was just hoping it wouldn’t carry over this long. Megan to my knowledge addressed it with her PC to make sure they were on the same page in regards to mechanics.

One service had Hazelwood as the #35 recruit we were told how I don’t know. I think Turner is good when healthy. The truth is though that rankings don’t mean squat once you start playing. Truth is on the field.

Yes we all know that from Gabby Sprang, who was the best pitcher in her class and has been a total bust in college.

I have a feeling few will be asked to "retire" like Lockman and Vines did or look for playing time elsewhere

That's happened to a few players but neither Lockman nor Vines fits that bill. Those were both 5th year players, and scholarships are limited in softball. Programs don't just have extra money laying around for 5th years like basketball or football do, and that's why there's so many transfers of players who have redshirted. UT paid for Lockman to finish her degree here, as she was on injury scholly after her injury. The staff didn't have money for her fifth year and even helped her transfer afterwards and find a spot at Long Beach State -- who has been the recipient of several LV softball transfers over the years. Vines redshirted and then, from what I was told, was dismissed for violating team rules, but still got her degree from UT. They had planned on her coming back and she was on the roster that Fall, IIRC. She signed a LOI to finish her career at Loyla Marymount as a graduate transfer but never joined the team there from what I can tell.

The better example would be Gabby Sprang, who was basically told after her disastrous freshman year where she had horrible control issues that she would probably be better off seeking greener pastures. So she went to Oklahoma State, who seems to land 2-3 transfers every offseason, where she's seen barely any playing time at all. She has only pitched three innings for them this season and has seen a grand total of 34 innings of play in her time there (31 in 2019, none last season, three this season).

Going to be a bad night looks like. Seems like half the offense is gone then the seeing eye hits plus a solid hit ball and already down two runs.

We look so weak offensively in this game don't have a clue how we can get two runs to catch up. Only 53 pitches in four innings we have looked pathetic at the plate tonight.
