Lady Vols Recruiting Info

I'm so glad that some genius on the board has determined that tranfers don't "work" out.

Guess ole gee no will just have A. Stevens and the ky girl sit on the bench and clap when they get to huskyland?

M Marciniak (sp?) sure worked out for us.

I feel the same way! I would love Hayes (for the likelihood we could get her sisters) as well as Harrison (because 2 of her sister were Lady Vols) I think with Walker most likely to end up at UConn and Boothe most likely to end up at Maryland (along with the Wings/Post they got in the 2016 class) our only real competition (and I hope I am right) for her would be UGA and SC (she could get a lot of playing time there). Patterson of course is a no-brainer imo, she wants to be like one of the greatest Lady Vols and her idol (Candace Parker). I also want Ursin (5'7" combo guard who can DUNK)

If we can land;

PG-Hayes
SG-Ursin
SF-Dodson
PF-Patterson/Harrison
C-Greene (already signed on)

What a heck of a 2017 class and one that I believe Russell & Diamond (if both have breakout seasons and we reach a Final Four) would return for their Senior seasons! We then would be looking for Russell's replacement in 2018 (we would still have Harris shot blocking ability for 2 seasons and Green for 1) and there are a few interesting ones in the 2018 class.

1.) Collier 6'4" (#1)
2.) Prince 6'7" (#5)
3.) Nelson-Ododa 6'4" (#13)
4.) Collins 6'3" (#17)

Collins will be visiting UT and talk to the staff on Monday.

One has to be careful not to confuse parity with mediocrity. Years ago, there were powerhouse teams in the SEC. Tennessee and LSU were regular participants in the Final Four. Some years, those two teams made up half of the attendees. In the last eight years, only one of the 32 teams playing in the Final Fours has represented the SEC (South Carolina in 2015). There were a lot of (low scoring) close games in SEC conference play this past season. Was it because the cellar-dwellers have gotten considerably better or because the stronger teams have faltered? I would much rather watch a well-oiled team (like when Fowles and Augustus played together at LSU) execute beautiful basketball than sit through a 44-43 game where both teams struggle to put anything together.

Right on target ^^^^^

One good thing about UConn is they aren't going to be as great/dominate in the next year or two. They didn't even get in the top 10 recruiting classes for 2016 which I don't think has ever happened for them.

Geno will still make them very good but I don't believe they will dominate like they have the past 4 years. They will lose a few games now.

This was parroted over and over again last year preseason and just how did that turn out ?

Geno Auriemma having Azura Stevens in his back pocket scares me. I've watched her go up against Wilson for two years now and the girl is supremely talented.. she just needs the right coach and offensive scheme.

UCONN runs the type of offense that could make her a nightmare. UCONN was honestly the last school I wanted her to go to just because I know what Geno could do with a player like her.

If another team can't step up and take UConn's NC crown away from them forcefully, then there is no hope for the rest of the teams.

There should be at least 4 teams better than UConn at the start of the season, and the Huskies by no means should be considered a lock for the FF.

Somebody else besides them HAS to win it this upcoming season just to slow their momentum. I would love for it to be SC but honestly anybody will do... ND, Tenn, Baylor, Maryland... anybody but UCONN.

Nothing personal against the huskies, I just don't think I could stomach another 5 year championship run.

Other than Diamond as I noted in my previous post, any person outside of the UT fan base would disagree with your statement. And I'm sure that I'm not the only Tennessee fan that would have loved to see Kaela Davis suit up in orange.

You aren't I wanted us to have her when she opened up her recruitment I was hoping she would've chose us and when I heard she was transferring from Tech (although I knew the chances were slim because Diamond was here) I was hoping she would still come. She is a baller and you can't take that away from her.

You are right at 6'6" her ability to dribble/play like a guard (imo she's the Anthony Davis of women's basketball) it scares me. I think she will be a nightmare alongside Camara a couple of seasons for now.

It would be tough to have three volume shooters on the same team. Would Diamond and Cooper want to share the ball with another me-player like Davis? Davis has a lot of talent, but sharing the ball isn't her strong suit. I don't think she and Diamond (or their parents) would be happy if the two played on the same team.

UConn just graduated the top three picks in the WNBA draft. Does anyone think a team can lose that much talent and not drop significantly in ability? UConn doesn't have enough talent left to make the Final Four this coming year. The year after, with Stevens on the roster, UConn will be very dangerous again.

That would be the reason they split ways in High School?

That's my take as well. Teams need to kick them while they're down.

UCONN will contend for the NC next year, I would love to see the Vols contend also. Regardless of our differences, I want to see the Vols back in contention. For so many years your team played beautiful basketball, I sincerely hope they get it back.

The Connies...They're not down, they're reloading... People said the same thing when Maya left and we got more... It's up to UT (not .. SC) to take back what was once ours... This group of girls can do it. Its up to the staff to make em "gel".

I sure see a lot of premature celebrating of UConn's demise. Holly's recruiting disasters are about to look that much worse once the Crystal Dangerfield era begins.....

I don't think Dangerfield was coming to Tennessee no matter who was the head coach. It's strange, but UConn has always been her dream school. I think this staff recruiting problem was putting all their eggs in one basket and not evaluating talent thoroughly. For example, Kristine Anigwe the 6'4" post player at Cal wanted to come to Tennessee, but was overlooked because of Kalani Brown when it was a great chance all along that Brown would end up at Baylor because her mother played with Mulkey. Brown was ranked higher, but Anigwe is the better player in my opinion and had the better freshman season becoming the PAC 12 Freshman of the year. Thankfully Reeves is coming in with a new approach and is going after players that Tennessee has a realistic chance of signing. She is also casting a wider net. When Mikayla Coombs dropped Tennessee off her list of finalist, Reeves have discovered another dynamic guard in Dana Evans out of the state of Indiana who is a scoring machine. I think recruiting will improve with Reeves now on the staff. Picking up a JUCO All-American that never even really considered Tennessee is encouraging compared to going in the Spring with no signees. We've hit rock bottom this season so we can only go up.

Two separate issues. I don't necessarily think that Tennessee will be one of the top challengers to UConn's crown. Going into next season, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Baylor, Texas, Ohio State, Maryland and Louisville should all be ahead of the Lady Vols in the pecking order.

I'm sure that Dangerfield will fit in nicely into UConn's returning lineup, but I don't see her being as good as a freshman as Moriah Jefferson was at a senior. I also don't think that any of the returning players will be able to replace what they lost with Stewart and Tuck graduating to the WNBA. They still have talent, and they still have Geno at the helm, but there is a strong likelihood that they will look like the team right after Taurasi graduated; talented, but firmly in the middle of the pack.

That will all change once Azura Stevens suits up, so the opportunity is there for the top teams to claim their scalp once they are vulnerable.

I've heard this excuse from Holly apologists for a while, but I don't think for a second Pat would have let this one get out of the state....

Miracles do happen, however, with this coaching staff it might not happen. I believe we have the talent, but coaching must improve and the girls will need to bring it every night.
