Lady Vols Logo

Yankee, when I asked if you were Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, or Coast Guard, it took you six minutes to proudly respond, "Army". Do you not feel a part of your brothers in the other Armed Forces? I am sure you did not mean to denigrate them by proudly claiming to be "Army" as opposed to 'we are all one, there is no difference in the Armed Forces'. That is what the Lady Vols feel. Yes, they are All One. Just as you and your service brothers are. Being proud of being a Lady Vol and wanting to claim that well earned title is no different than when you proclaim "Army". They are both something that identifies you and you are proud to have earned. It makes them no less a UT Vol than proclaiming Army makes you less a member of the US Armed Services.

I appreciate your service and I believe you have the right to proudly claim "ARMY" and to wear a uniform that identifies you as such. I just feel the UT female athletes should have the same right.

To be honest, no. And there is a difference in the different branches, hence the branches.

And it's an apples to oranges comparison IMO.

'No' as in you don't feel a part of service men and women in other branches? That was the only question I asked.

You are all part of the Armed Services aren't you? You do all have one Commander in Chief don't you?

Your answer is very confusing to me. My family has Army, Navy, Air Force vets from different eras/wars. Although proud of their particular service, they always respected those in the other services. Maybe the Marines are different as to a Service brotherhood?

The apples and oranges part is funny though:)

Small, I am with you. If making a point was scoring a basketball shot, you just made a backboard shattering slam dunk. Now, if only Dave Hart were to read this, and get your point. I believe he and those he listens to are dead set on tossing the Lady Vols legacy in the trash. Very sad.

Thanks, TNnative. However, to get a point you generally have to have an open mind, and it helps to be able to use logic. IMO hart does not have the one and has no intention of attempting the other.

I wish I knew why they are so set on this course. It seems to have been counterproductive to their stated goal. Now, however, I think ego and control have become the drivers, and that is never good.

I think they call it "Uniformed Services" now, maybe to sound a little less aggressive, IDK. Obviously yes to the second question.

I certainly can respect the other branches, but do I feel a brotherhood with them? No. Not even within the Army as a whole. I feel a brotherhood with those I've served with, and those within my job set (and a few others).

Well, there is no arguing with your feelings. I have always been proud of those who served...no matter the branch or the time. Your response just makes me sad.

Maybe he's saying that in the Air Force, both men and women are airmen ...when you yell "corpsman" a man or woman could answer? And so on...:dunno:

I don't think you get it, and I don't think you will. Just leave it at that. :hi:

Maybe it was because you really didn't have a very good argument against it? Good analogy in my opinion.

I served in the military and we did exercises with other branches and we felt a kinship with them so I don't know what he's talking about. There was also a competitive spirit too.

Thanks, Sandvol. That response was so contrary to the way I was raised (father, uncles, brother, nephew all vets) that it really made me feel bad. I'm glad you verify the 'kinship' feelings. And I know what you mean..dad was Army, brother Air Force, nephew Army...could get pretty wild sometimes:) Competitive was just the beginning!

Or maybe it's because I don't like I said.

So every McDonalds (insert any employer) employee should feel a kinship with all the McDonald's employees around the world right?

Again I respect the other branches (and MOSs), but I feel no brotherhood (kinship, whatever you want to call it) with them.

Now that's a poor analogy.

That is a good question.....I sure hope it doesn't just say "women's sports."

To me the name Lady Vols has always been magic. And I'm a guy that likes and follows all sports at UT.

I really hate this controversy about the name. To me they will always be Lady Vols. They have always represented us with class...Now as a reward we'll just take your name away.

This is all that needs to be said. She isn't the only one that feels this way. My sister-in-law and one of her best friends and former teammate feel the same and maybe more so. All the people on here backing the doing away with the logo just don't understand the Lady Vol logo and what it stands for. It's not sexist, it's not an outdated 50's term. The word lady was around a few hundred years before the 50's. Somebody needs to reverse this stupidity.

Most of them aren't alumni or Lady Vol fans.
