Lady Vols Logo

Another item from the KNS, this would not surprise me if this happened next. I will never trust Hartless
Charlie Daniel cartoon for June 17, 2015 - News Sentinel Story

That's good. Makes one wonder how those who think the people who care about the Lady Vols are so wrong/outdated will feel if something important to them is attacked/removed.

Niemõller: "... Then they came for the ***s, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a ***.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

Oh well then, eff them? Are you saying that people's opinion doesn't count it they're not an alumna or a former Vol? (apologies if I misinterpreted what you said)

Also if you're a Vol fan, aren't you already a "Lady Vol fan"?... If not, are there "Lady Vol fans" who are not Vol fans? If so, we have a new set of problems. :loco:

We welcome non alumnus to be Vol fans and everyone has a right to an opinion. But it really should be just the alumni or more precisely alumni Lady Vols and current Lady Vols whose opinions matter. For instance I'm sure both Hart and Cheeks are Vol fans. But, in my opinion, they should not be the ones making this decision or used to make this decision. They are not Vols. (I suspect this is coming from the BOT who are Vols (mostly) which really pisses me off.)

If you believe the first part of your quoted post, you have not been reading many of the posts about the elimination of the logo on the football and basketball boards. I would estimate that somewhere between 35 and 40% of fans who would describe themselves as died-in-the-wool, hard-core Vol fans, could not only care less about the Lady Vols, but would like to see all women's sports eliminated!

While I recognize that there are a number of fans who consider themselves solely Lady Vol fans, my general take has been that those fans don't express the same dislike for men's sports, but rather, a benign neglect. Many of these fans have started following the Lady Vols not because of any particular tie to, or involvement with, the University of Tennessee, but because of an admiration for Pat Summitt. My observation has been that the vast majority of "Lady Vol" fans are, in fact, fans of University of Tennessee sports who enjoy and support the women's teams and the men's teams with equal fervor.

Personally, I find the latter attitude less troublesome than the former.

As I said...part of a bigger problem. "Lady Vol fans" are setting themselves apart from the rest of the fanbase. When I rooted for Summitt's first championship, I had no idea that it was for a different university.

You weren't. How did you get from point A (his post) to point B ("different university")? And why don't you think "a bigger problem" is his first paragraph?

I got the keywords...less a fan of the university...more an admirer of Pat Summitt. So in effect, a glorified fan club should be making decisions on how a UNIVERSITY markets itself.

FYI...when someone starts spouting "percentages" they're 100% pulling them out of a source other than a legitimate poll. :)

And anyone who both deliberately misstates both the premise and the substance of a post isn't interested in a discussion. I would have expected that I would not have to have included the phrase "who are posting in those threads" after the word fans, in what was clearly expressed as my personal estimation of the percentages based on an observation and reading of those threads.

Oh? So I'm supposed to automatically know how your mind works? And that you're basing it on reading VolNation? :eek:lol:..sorry just sounded that out.

I would suggests that you consider some remedial classes for what seems to be a serious problem with reading comprehension, but since it is obvious from the nature and tone of your replies that you don't have a problem with reading comprehension, I can only surmise that your obtuseness is deliberate. Please feel free to have the last word in this particular exchange. I've wasted enough time with your brand of humor.

Seems you've made it a personal thing. Best course of action is take a break from discussion with independent thinkers for a tad. Best of luck to you in "scientifically" analyzing message boards.

I don't follow any men's sports. That doesn't mean I want men's programs to disappear - I just don't follow them.

I can't prove this, but I suspect that a large per centage of people that follow only men's sports also don't necessarily advocate the dissolution of women's programs - they just don't follow them.

I have never understood the suggestion that I have to be a fan of the University as a whole and be a fan of all sports. I can tell you I am not. This suggestion is as absurd to me as saying that because I am a fan of some women's programs I therefore must be a fan of all women's programs.

If you believe that all Vol fans are also Lady Vol fans or that a fan of one University sport is also a fan of all sports, then you believe something that isn't true. And I see absolutely no problem with people deciding for themselves what sports they follow.

I believe I'm a Vol fan. I believe I'm a fan of Lady Vol teams. That's the truth. Prove me wrong. :aggressive:

The bigger picture on this is that women sports is part of the WHOLE UNIVERSITY. Money needed to maintain those sports is derived mainly from football related sources. The women's basketball team generates some cash flow but their uniforms, travel expenses, coaches salaries, recruiting budget et al would have to be downgraded severely without the football largesse. They'll keep the Lady Vols logo as a nod to Coach Summitt, but if you're going to buy licensed school gear? All teams under the same roof...as it should be. Think about it...you can go to a softball game...hate football...and no one will know. :shhh:

But, if Nike is keeping the LV logo for the basketball team, why could it not be kept for all women's sports? Seems it would cost more to keep it for one sport but not all the others. Or, something like that. I, also, don't think it's about the money at all. I think many Vol fans are fans of only a few sports and not so much as all of them. While some fans like all Vol sports. It's a pick and choose depending on which sports activities interest one. I have an interest in all Vol sports but don't follow all of them like I do the football team and the men's and women's basketball teams.

You misunderstood completely my post.

This can be interpreted in a number of ways. I think the BOT, and possibly Nike, got caught in a backlash they didn't expect. Now, they have a lot of upset fans and former Lady Vols and don't know how to address it. So, hey, we're just not going to discuss it at all. A discussion regarding the issue would be for the good of all, in a way. It doesn't mean the BOT, NIKE or whoever will change their minds, but it shows a willingness to open it up for discussion. Looks like a case of I'm taking my ball and going home.

Simply put: it won’t even discuss the matter.

If you're able to buy a tee with a Power T and go to either a football or softball game? I think you sell more...JMO. :hi:
