KPD to crack down on tailgating

When you have to work an accident when an innocent person is killed by a drunk driver, it kind of brings it into perspective.

True, but why do you dodge the drug issue or deny the law is misused. Why hide on the hwy with a radar gun when a larger danger lurks on the streets. This small town has seen enough of the damage caused by drugs.I have seen lawyers and judges caught DUI here. The judge is a coke head and served his 48 hours in his chambers. With all amenities. Please don't hassle me 'til you fix your own house.

Well, to tell you, most of us could care less if you are drinking unless you are being loud and disruptive. That, as well as being a smart*** will get you in trouble faster than holding a beer in a cup. In order to be arrested for PD, the law requires that the offender to be so intoxicated that he/she cannot properly care for themselves and pose and danger to themselves or others. If your inside your house, you cannot be arrested for just having a beer and being seen from the outside. If that was the case, an officer could look inside a bar and arrest everyone he saw holding a beer.

The part about the offender being unable to properly care for themselves is BS.The officer can arrest you for it there is nothing you can do or say.It is your word against the cop.The judge says you were too inebriated to know.Get real.

I don't mean to show any disrespect or get in the great debate but that is just plain bull*&^% and you know it. If the government gave 1 ounce of crap about really saving lives which one of these would hold the stiffer penalty?

1. Wear your seatbelt at all times.

2. Drunk driving.

I got a ticket for running a red light 6 months ago and elected to go to the safety school rather than have the commies go up on my insurance. The officer who taught the class was actually very good. He said he'd been teaching it for about 12 years and told the hundred or so people there, we make a bigger deal out of drunk driving but truth be known, we'd save THOUSANDS OF MORE lives if we hammered down on the seat belt law.

Drunk driving is a huge cash cow for local and state governments plain & simple. It's not about saving lives...it's about making $$$. If they really cared they'd take those $$$ and invest in valid sober ride programs instead of stupid commercials that won't affect 1% of the population.

Now that my rant is over....thank you sir for what you do.

Excatly!

I understand you shouldn't walk down the sidewalk with an open container. If you are in a parking lot and not causing any trouble, I think that is a different matter. Let the people have fun that are not causing trouble. As said above, it is all about the money!

No offense taken!! As far as drugs, you will never be able to rid the world of drugs. It as simple as supply and demand. As long as someone demands it, someone will supply it. And as long as both sides are making money from it, you will not cure the problem.

I have come up with a great way to avoid being hassled when drinking on campus before, during, and after games - I respect the law that says that its illegal to do so, and the campus' "dry" policy - and don't drink in those places.

If I didn't like the law or policy, i'd work to change them. If not, and I still wanted to drink in those forbidden areas, i'd expect a ticket.

As someone who abstains from doing so, i'll be glad to see those others who don't be made to stop.

Dislike of the law is no grounds to violate it.

Just one man's opinion.

As I had posted earlier, it is the dumb***es that ruin it for everyone. 90% will not give you any trouble.

I wish I could agree.Life has taught me different.Long hair and a Harley are inevitable invites to harassment(minor or major) by the local constabulatory(sp).I'm too old and been hassled too often to hear that crap-We were just doing our job.Corruption runs rampant but you turn away because it is elected officials.I bet you voted for Allah Bama.

I will not get into a debate over why or why not, because KPD is just doing what has been demanded they do. Unfortunantly, someone has complained about the tailgaters, and if they refuse to uphold the law, then they have neglected their duty. Most officers try to do their job, without bias, and as fair to everyone as possible. Just like every other profession, a few bad apples will always be there.

Terrible idea on behalf of KPD, the 10 mile tailgating radius around Neyland is what makes gamedays in Knoxville so great, i could not, nor do i wish to, imagine Knoxville on a Florida or Alabama saturday without the wild and crazyness that is SEC football that gets its fuel from inside a bottle of Jack Daniels or Bud Light. I say at the season opener, every person stand outside Neyland with one of those orange UT Football Bud Light bottles and hold them up in protest, they wont arrest 100,000 people.....we must fight for our right to party (sorry for the bad song lyric quote) but my time in knoxville and my 5 years of contribution to the economy there via local liquor stores and kegs from Pilot on the strip shall not be taken away in vain!

You mean, sorta like when someone else runs a red light, in your car? You then get a ticket in the mail with a pretty picture of your license plate and are told to pay it! Even if you can prove you weren't the one driving it? The basic response is... you are responsible, so pay it or it goes on your record! Why do they even provide a form with the ticket allowing you to explain that you weren't the driver, if they don't care anyway?! It is just a way to collect $ from someone for something the DIDN'T DO!
