KNS reporting Cutcliffe expected to accept Duke job

In fariness rex, there is the variable out there that could make everything sunshine and rainbows again:

Phil - Cut + X = championships

X = an oustanding offensive coordinator left alone to do things the way he sees fit and possibly brought in under assurances that if he is successful he can replace Fulmer in a couple of years.

I was thinking about guys that might wind up on a Cutcliffe staff at Duke and Mike McIntyre came to mind. Mike might be ready to make the leap to OC. Not really a UTK guy but I wonder if he''d get a shot?

This isn't THAT big of a deal. Yes, Cutcliffe was a great QB coach and average playcaller. It's a big deal, but not the apocalypse some of you act like it is.

Remember, it's far far easier to find a quality coordinator than it is to find a quality HC. In about 5 seconds the other night, I listed 4 OCs off the top of my head that would do well here. There are tons of others.

The worry, I know, is that CPF isn't going to find the best guy. We all believe he's going to find someone safe, someone close. Let's hope not. He's done this twice, and both times he hired a Tennessee guy. Third time's a charm?

Very true. It is much easier to find a coordinator....my angst has much less to do with Cut leaving, and more to do with your second salient point.

Indulge me to repeat a post on another thread.

Yes CDC is possibly leaving before a bowl game as he did for Ol Miss, well to take the job, what choice does he have?

Yes he could be better than his replacement, at least we have the opportunity to do better, I'll take that chance!

Some are saying this sucks, maybe, but most all OC/DCs aspire to be a HC. Why should CDC be any different? He may not get many other offers.

Whats the chances he would take Slade with him? That would make this a lot easier to take!

I say good luck, lets see if we can't turn this into a positive opportunity.

Is Duke sure they don't want Chavis too? How about replacing Chavis with Rodney Gardner from Georgia at DC?

Can you imagine how funny it would be for Chavis and Cut to work together without Fulmer keeping them from killing each other?

Chavis would be pleased to know that Duke already plays 15 yards off the receivers. He wouldn't have to change a thing.

Mike Strange just reported on the News Sentinel's Sports Page that Cutcliffe came down at Tennessee's bowl media day and told everyone that he has not been offered the Duke job and he is concentrating soley on Wisconsin and recruiting.

For what it's worth.

I think "Chief" is the problem on the hill. He hates any coach who has success b/c he rarely has any. I know he wanted to be a HC - that'll never happen at the 1-A level. You're "D" can't give up over 500 yards to your biggest rival then make a lameduck qb look like the Heisman front-runner (J. Parker Wilson).

Pls Chief step down, please step down.

I wish Phil would pull the plug on CJC.

Chief had some pretty good defense's in the past....2005 as an example....I agree he had a horrid year this year, but in his defense he has coached some good ones to....

I think Chavis turned down a HC job at Western Carolina a few years ago. I believe that is the school considering hiring Randy Sanders now.

I don't think Fulmer will bring in a better QB coach then Cutcliffe was.

Most of his other hires, weren't that impressive, i.e. Roper, Adkins, etc. The TE coach Fulmer hired, Luke, is the only one I was impressed with.
