Before I get bashed, I posted this is a different forum and didnt get any responses really. so i figured i could get a few here.

I'm gonna be making my first trip to Knoxville for a few games this year. I'm 19 and saved up a lot of money to get flights and tickets to a handful of games.

I don't know anything about the town (sad I know I've always been a Vol fan, die hard) Where would be the best place to stay in the town on a friday night and a saturday night and I'll be leaving on sundays.

Thanks, Go Vols

I would say anywhere downtown would be a great place to stay on game weekends, you would be close to campus as well as all the good places to eat like Calhouns.

I've never understood the obsession with Calhouns. Just because it is on a river does not make up for the fact that it is an average chain BBQ estabalishment at best. You can get average BBQ in any city. Great Knoxville eating should never be lumped with a freaking Calhouns.

Being on the river and the shadow of Neyland make up for the slightly better than average food.

Microbrews, moderate prices, and atmosphere help as well.

as to the OP:

Hotels downtown get pricey for game weekends, as you might expect. But they are the best places to stay due to their proximity to the stadium as well as the bar scenes (although being only 19 this may not be important to you unless you have a decent fake I.D.)

If you are looking for more reasonable hotel options, there are some near the airport, at papermill, and further east at strawberry plains. However, the cab rides back and forth might even up the amount you'd be paying to just stay downtown.

I hope you enjoy your trip(s)

Thank you! I hate it when people talk about how good Calhouns is, which is average at best.

It depends on how much you want to spend. I like to stay at the Cumberland House (Four Points) sometimes. That's gonna run about $270 a night on game weekends. $115 regularly. I like to stay just outside of town, like in Straw Plains if I want to be cheaper. Usually $150.

Check in at the Mouses Ear Ho-tel and you will find it hard to leave for the game. (Pun intended)

Be sure to get your reservations EARLY, as in very soon. For big games, the best places will be booked up well in advance.

CALHOUNS. It's all about the micro brews, course he's 19 so that doesn't do him any good, right?

As long as your renting a car, stay out in West Knoxville around Cedar Bluff or up 75 near Merchants. Party on the strip or in the Fort, if you can get into house parties. If you're leaving Monday night, you can get a great burger at Parkside Grill (right off of Cedar Bluff) for $5 on Mondays. Very worth it.

May not be for the young but if you already got company...I like getting a cabin. You can find em with almost whatever you want...indoor pool, pool table, foosball, jacuzi, hot tub, game room, pert near whatever you could imagine inside a cabin. What I like best about em is privacy.I've learned to book em from wednesday to saturday. You can check out saturday, head down to the strip and get ready for some football. As far as saturday night I just stay in something like a motel 6...only gonna pass out there for a few hours anyway. There are ALOT of sites but here is one that I've used often.

Pigeon Forge Cabins | Gatlinburg Cabins | Smoky Mountain Cabin Rentals | Pigeon Forge TN.
