Knox County Passes Mandatory Indoor Face Masks

I cannot cite a study but it is a plausible opinion and I saw a report last night which actually showed the a person coughing, sneezing and singing with a mask and without one and recorded In a Petri dish. With a mask , there was little or no discernible discharge. With the mask , the results were frightening, especially with sneezing. This example was conducted in a medical lab. It was on NBC news last night at 6:30 or the local NBC Bristol affiliate right before that. No doubt masks should be worn by all.

No doubt...the manufacturers of said masks clearly state their product does not provide protections against covid-19. Also, masks reduce your oxygen levels which have adversely effect your health.

Medical professionals that have speculating on when a viable vaccine will be created and then distributed to everyone that wants one.

I am. Feel free to clarify your post.

LOL The post was simply a direct link to facts about the failure of masks to prevent viral transmissions. This means the only reason a fine of 50 dollars for not wearing a mask could exist is because of the herd of cattle cheering on the abuse of power.

From the article in physiciansnews.com ( a physician is a doctor by the way.)

The CDC’s advice contrasts with another CDC webpage that says a surgical mask does “NOT provide the wearer with a reliable level of protection from inhaling smaller airborne particles and is not considered respiratory protection.”
Put simply, in worker safety, “a surgical mask is not PPE,” or personal protective equipment, said Amber Mitchell, president and executive director of the International Safety Center and immediate past chair of the occupational health and safety section of the American Public Health Association.
The allowance for surgical masks made more sense when scientists initially thought the virus was spread by large droplets. But a growing body of research shows it’s spread by minuscule viral particles that can linger in the air as long as 16 hours.
A properly fitted N95 will block 95% of tiny air particles — down to three-tenths of a micron in diameter, which is the hardest to catch — from reaching the wearer’s face. But surgical masks, designed to protect patients from a surgeon’s respiratory droplets, aren’t effective at blocking particles smaller than 100 microns, according to mask maker 3M Corp.
A COVID-19 particle is about 1 to 4 microns, according to recent research.

Could save lives during flu season too. Guess no one really cared about saving lives until 2020
It can save flu lives. The cat is out of the bag, I believe wearing masks will be customary for many indefinitely. I will probably be in that group because I have an 86 year old Mom.

I don't know how many times it has to be said: masks don't protect the wearer. They protect those around the wearer. If I wear a mask and you don't, you're protected from me but I am not protected from you.

Think of it this way:

If you and I are standing next to each other and neither of us is wearing pants, and I start to pee, you're going to get my urine all over your bare legs.

If you are wearing pants but I'm not, your pants will keep off a little bit of my urine, but you're still going to get most of it on your legs.

But if I'm wearing pants, my urine is going to get soaked up by my pants, and you will stay nice and dry.

Your peeing analogy is the most asinine thing I have heard in a while (and that is saying something...lol).

Think of it this way...using a cloth mask to stop a virus from being spread to others is like using a fishing net to hold water.

Seems clear that any mask is better than no mask, and while wearing one helps protect me from breathing in what's out there, it doesn't prevent it from coming along on clothing and skin straight to everyone's elderly family. If you can't see why not taking even such a simple precaution is selfish and stupid, I'm also not sure what to tell you.

Best to not post your ignorance for the world to see...if you honestly believe that "any mask is better than no mask" then we can stop our dialog there as you clearly do not understand the most fundamental aspects of virology protection. You also clearly are ignorant of the adverse health effects from depriving yourself of oxygen.

Sure, why not? We've shown the majority will do whatever they're told no matter how many times it changes

I’m wearing masks because I believe it is prudent and may help myself, Mom and others I come in contact with. If I did not believe that was true, I would be first in line to complain about mandates. I
watched a medical experiment last night on NBC that proved IMO that masks can reduce the chances of catching any virus.

And that should be your right to choose. Others should have the same

Did you ever wear a mask in public before being told to for covid?

Started wearing one about two weeks before others. I got a few strange looks during that time of course. We do not have complete freedom In a free, democratic country We have DUI laws, laws against harming others physically or financially. You do not have the right to choose if the activity infringes on others well-being. IMO masks at least on a temporary basis should be this category.

What does it matter? I was responding to a claim that every Knoxville politician was a R.

Kincannon is the Knoxville City Mayor, which is an office that in non-partisan, as are all city races.

Every politician in Knox County government, where all races are partisan, is currently a Republican. The last Democrat to hold office in Knox County was Criminal Court Judge Mary Beth Lebowitz, who retired in 2014 and was replaced by a Republican.

Guess the term "literslly" is tough for you.

Here you go skippy.

Well, again, since you're still having trouble here, Knoxville city offices are non-partisan, meaning that the people that hold them are not identified by their party. Every local office holder that runs with a letter next to their name on the ballot is a Republican. So the point remains.

I was, again, clearly talking about the County in the first place seeing how I used "Knox County" instead of "Knoxville" and the entire discussion is about something done by the Knox County government.

“Left wing authoritarians”? We’re talking about Knox County, TN. Literally every politician currently in local office is a Republican.
Those dang right wing authoritarians ..... asking people to please wear masks to keep themselves and others from going to the hospital or possibly dying. ------ Where is my friggin pitchfork ?

Indya Kincannon is a Democrat. She is a politician. She holds an elected position.

The Sheriff is the only one with any common sense. These left wing authoritarians are power hungry mad. There is no due process of law. These people forget they work for us.
Bote them out. This should be a voluntary thing.Who the hell do they think they are
threatening people with a class c misdemeanor even the sheriff sounds like he doesn't going to enforce this edict.
You should look up the law and you will see that it has been on the books for over one hundred years. Remember the Polio shot you got? Google can be your friend..

Will the particles that do get thru the mask be sterile? How many particles does it take to catch the virus? If a mask is not 100% effective, what's the point? Saying it helps is pointless if it doesn't prevent.
Just to counter; is this the kind of thinking that someone goes through when deciding to wear a condom or not? It's not 100%, so why bother?

Then carry on and count on dumb luck to change to situation.

"Message from the Sheriff:
There are serious questions as to the constitutionality of the order made by the health board. My Deputies are sworn to support and defend the constitution. We will rely on the citizens of this community to protect themselves and others in the manner they find appropriate."

Sheriff Spangler’s Response to the COVID-19 mask regulation order.

Last I checked, my Constitutional Law Book was written by Erwin Chermerensky, not Professor Spangler.

If you can’t enforce it, which you can’t effectively, just say so. Don’t BS about constitutionality.

Because masks are mostly intended to keep somebody from spreading germs. It’s not nearly as effective at keeping things out because the airborne particles are so small.
If they are so small then the virus will travel through the mask!

Because while I wouldn't be breathing in any germs someone unmasked might breathe out, they'd still ride along on my clothes and skin. Simple. If everyone covers their nose and mouth, it makes a huge difference. Not being willing to do that little is stupid and selfish.
Again, if the virus can travel through the mask you are wearing the virus will still land on your clothes! The more you try to defend this the sillier you sound.
