.The one big difference in the Kiffin and Fulmer approaches to coaching centers on practice intensity. Kiffin has the Vols hitting at full speed every day.Fulmer babied his Vols, and they often came up short against formidable foes. Ex-Vol head coach John Majors, whose family name is synonymous with Tennessee football, likes what he's seen during Kiffin's practices.Majors said the Vol coaches are teaching technique and fundamentals and the players' energy seems high."They know how to practice," Majors said, but he advises fans not to be overly enthusiastic about Tennessee being coached by someone with a brief NFL coaching background.Kiffin failed to develop a successful track record when he coached the Oakland Raiders. Majors is telling us to evaluate Kiffin on the basis of what the Vols do against the Floridas, Alabamas and Georgias of the SEC, not against each other or breather opponents like Western Kentucky. And my advice is: Don't believe most of what you read or hear about the Vols in the Knoxville media, otherwise you might become convinced the Vols are much better than they are.(Gilbert,DNJ)
