Kiffin's press conferences are ten times more interesting than Fulmer. You can just see that this guy knows so much about the game. The details he explains about players such as how valuable the relationship is between the play caller and his QB, talking about Bryce and superstar backs vs average backs, etc. This is a guy that continues to evolve as a coach and we have seen him even grow in his brief time here. What a pickup!

152-52....

Kiffin has yet to win a game. Lets see what he does on the field before we put him out there as a better coach than Fulmer.

I am not saying he won't be.

Fulmer's last 4 years, he was 29-21. If Kiffin's win % is better than that after his first 3 years, I think it's safe to say Kiffin is a better coach than Fulmer.

I'm high on Kiffin, but lets not forget about the body of work.

Fulmer brought what Battle, Dickey, and Majors couldn't, and we should be grateful for that.

I wouldn't say Kiffin is a better coach if he doesn't win an SEC championship at some point while he is here.

Fulmer WAS a great coach, now he is not. That is the point I'm making. People always look at the body of work when trying to defend Fulmer, but when you look at what he's done recently (nothing) he's a below average coach.

This. We should never forget what Fulmer did for this team. That being said, I hope Kiffin comes on like gangbusters and does a tremendous job.

So, if we discuss Bear Bryant, General Neyland, Bobby Bowden, or Joe Paterno we can pick certain years of their careers and make a decision on what kind of coach they were based on that?

No. I'm saying getting rid of Fulmer was the right decision because right now he is a below average coach, and people who are saying, "I can't believe we got rid of a coach that won a national championship and won 150 games..." need to stop, because he is NOT the same coach today that he was in the 90s.

Kiffin's got Fulmer beat on dynamic personality alone. Good to see a coach who can fire up the crowd and get the VolNation blood flowing orange before he's even coached his first UT game. Reminds me of a certain basketball coach.

I agree about it was time for a change.

Maybe he was the coach today he was in the 90s and that is why he is no longer the coach. He didn't adapt well.

Which body of work? Last century's or his more recent and declining body of work, a body of work that is more reflective of his coaching ability. A body of work that got him fired.

A "career" is not complete until it's over. With that in mind, yes...absolutely...and those "certain years" are usually the last 3, 4, or 5 years. You are remembered by how you finish. Ask Larry Coker, or even Lou Holtz, how that works.

Bobby Bowden is a good example. So is Phil Fulmer. And so is Joe Paterno. The "separation factor" among those three, at this point, seems to be that while all three suffered a slump...Bowden and Paterno worked their way out of it. Fulmer made one bad move after another, and it ended up costing him his job. 29-21 over his last five years. Those are Kentucky numbers.

Bear Bryant and The General went out on top of their game. Fulmer went out under a 5-7 cloud, and two losing seasons in his last four.

There is no comparison between the three. Odds are, the same will apply when Bowden and Paterno retire. There's a HUGE difference between retiring, and being fired.

If you are, in fact, a "football ref", then you of all people should understand...it ain't about what you do in the second quarter...it's what you do for all four quarters. That is where Phil Fulmer, and his career, falls short.

Go Vols.

I agree Kiffin is a 100 times better than Fulmer on every level.

Don't get me wrong, Phil's pressers were not enthusiastic at all, but it's very hard to see how Kiffin is better than Phil on every level considering he hasn't coached a game yet. I want more than anything for that to be the case, but until Sept. 5 maybe we should withhold judgement on who is better on gameday, which is when it counts.

One step at a time, please. I bet you are one of those guys who read the last paragraph of book before reading the book.

Fulmer was a charismatic as loaf of bread during his press conferences.

...and that matters why? I tell ya what Kitten is good at, making friends. He is pretty classless and has proven it over and over. Can't wait to see how he is doing in the fire of the season. Guess we will see how many "F" bombs he'll drop in press conferences or how many kids he will throw under the bus. Bet on it, he will lose his cool and show who he is,...scared and over his head, just like w/Daaaaaaa Raaidarsssss.

And nice piece of work on Tebow. Brilliant. I wonder how many the lizards will score on us?

SEC Clue: Lane Kiffin, In Knoxville, With A Ballot | Bleacher Report

You read way to much into one post. Fulmer was bland. You're speculating on what Lane will or won't do which is based on what hasn't happened yet. What Fulmer has done is a matter of record. Number one is bland during press conferences. Number two is he didn't win sh*t in the last decade.

Your reference to the Raiders and the lizards means you need to slow down on the booze.

I dunno, since 98' Phil was something like 100-40,...Kitten won't win 100 games in his time @ UT. He will be out for having .500ish season after .500ish season and not winning the big ones. No resume + having your Daddy help you = .500ish (2nd, 3rd yr. will be ok, Dad will retire,...then it'll get ugly - all the other coachs will start to leave also.....FAIL.)
