Kentucky writer argues for SEC realignment

They need to get rid of the divisions just like in basketball and let the top 2 teams play for the SEC Title in the SECCG!

I would hate losing rivaries, but if we could keep Bama on the schedule every year, I wouldn't be against this.

If you want to eliminate the cross division automatic rival game and keep all of the historic games: Bama-UT, UGA-Auburn, Auburn-Bama, then move both UK and Vandy to the West and move Bama and Auburn to the East.

Not what I want, but it would remove the need for the automatic rival game...

Assign each team 3 permanent rivalries and rotate the other ten. The important rivalries stay intact and each team plays a home-and-home with every other team within a 4 year cycle as opposed to the 12 year cycle we have now.

swapping Vandy and Auburn would make some sense geographically, and it would make the division more fair. I don't see it happening though.

Seems to me that it would make more sense to swap Auburn and Mizzou from a geographical perspective, but then either the UT-Bama or Auburn-Bama rivalry goes away, which might be a good thing for UT (not that we've faired any better against Auburn). That would also even up the divisions a little more as Mizzou is back to being a mediocre team. Aub and Bama could keep playing and you wouldn't lose the Auburn-UGA game with that new alignment.

What's your feelings on a 9 game conference schedule, bamawriter?

Love that idea.

MSU is the Kentucky of the west.

Ole Miss really hasn't been that special besides the past few years.

If you want to change things, move Missouri and Vandy to the West and replace them with Auburn and Alabama to the East.

If Vandy was moved, they would argue that their permanent rivalry should be us. Any change would create as many questions as it would answer.

Sounds good. We could keep Florida, Bama & Vandy as permanent rivalries. See everybody else every four years.

That's my feeling, also. Has the SEC ever discussed either possibility, earnestly?

No on the nine game schedule. Only Bama wanted it when it came up for a vote.

We'll see what happens on the divisional front when the Big XII / ACC proposal comes up for a vote in January. The Big Ten wants to make divisions mandatory so I don't know how things will shake out.

How is that fair to Vandy. If the east is as bad as reported, which I disagree with, then why is swapping Candy with a barely bowl eligible Auburn going to suddenly set everything straight? Also, would that set Bama''s cross division games permanently? Us and Auburn every year? Let's hope not.

Get rid of divisions all together and none of this will be an issue.

I like the division play, especially the SEC Championship game,I'm sure that game is a big money maker,so I don't think they will want to drop it

the East has been down for a while, but it will change, although I do have to say,I don't understand Missouri being in the East Division, they are way out west lol

I think Mizzou was east of college station so it was put in the east. Each of the 2 teams we added had to go somewhere.

So is A&M but they had to even the divisions when they became SEC -- thats actually when the re alignment article/talk should have took place

"The West is better at the top, too. Three West programs have won national championships since 2002. Only Florida from the East has won a national title since 1998."

OK, since 1997, three teams from the West and two teams from the East have won National Championships! ...Tennessee and Florida vs. LSU, Auburn and Alabamer. Funny how much of a difference one year makes!

Auburn used to play Tennessee and Florida every year for many decades. They lost those rivalries, Tennessee by choice (which is why we briefly had Alabama and Arkansas every year) and Florida when they went to SECWest.
