I think the question is more along the lines of if the person admits* they were intoxicated to the point large swaths of what happened can't be recalled it's pretty problematic to state with assurance other things that occurred at the same time.

By the way, his base is a new electoral map of working class people that used to be championed by the Democrats but were abandoned in favor of identity politics. With the economy the way it is, I don't think Trump's giving them back anytime soon.

That base has always been there. Trump is the symptom of it, not the cause.
