It was added to make her a more sympathetic witness - as you say of course the safety would be covered.

Whatcha bet the demands will be she be treated like a high-level informant is being transported and an international crime organization is trying to take her out. Armored car, fake carvans, snipers all along the route, Jason Statham as the driver with Bruce Willis riding shotgun.

I’m actually interested over the Monday thing. Does Grassley buckle and let her testify later in the week or does he hold firm and say if she’s not there on Monday, the vote will be held on Wednesday.

I’m also wondering whether this is just another stunt. Dr. Ford’s team could request things that they know Grassley won’t agree to, therefore giving them a talking point that she wanted to testify, but the mean old Republicans just wouldn’t meet them halfway.

I think he will have to if it's Tuesday possibly Wednesday. Ahh, who am I kidding - if it's anytime next week I think he'll be pressured into doing it.

Kavanaugh of sexual assault has told the Senate Judiciary Committee, in an apparent bid to jump-start negotiations, that she “would be prepared to testify next week,” so long as senators offer “terms that are fair and which ensure her safety,” according to an email her lawyers sent to committee staff members.

In the email, obtained by The New York Times, the lawyer for Christine Blasey Ford said that testifying Monday — the timetable Republicans have set for a hearing — “is not possible and the Committee’s insistence that it occur then is arbitrary in any event.” The lawyer reiterated that it is Dr. Blasey’s “strong preference” that “a full investigation” occur before her testimony — wording that stopped short of demanding an F.B.I. probe and suggested she is open to testifying without one.

Can’t find any info if Grassley has budged on the Friday 10AM demand or not. I guess it’s moot since Ford indicated she won’t testify anyway on Monday. But has Grassley followed up with a “thanks for playing Don Pardo tell our departing contestant what her parting gift is!” yet?

I think they have a call set up with her lawyer to see if they can come to an agreement.
