Just hire Steele

Just make Steele the DC and move on. The longer we drag this out and get turned down by position coaches for the DC position the worse it looks. It's embarrassing as a program that the damn LB coach at Ohio St doesn't want a huge pay raise and promotion to a major P5 school
Exactly. So what if his D is not your style. Your the head coach. Tell him what you want

Fulmer deserves to never step on that campus again!

I don't disagree. However, we will still see plenty of him as long as he remains vertical. Eventually, he will be speaking at Quarterback club luncheons again. And those who remain fans of his on this site will be filling us in on what he said. Whether we want to read it or not.

I hope we will finally break away from this notion that we have to go down the same road we have in the past to be successful. If nothing else the fiasco of the last regime' should have given us plenty of reasons to take a different path now or you would think.

I'm not so sure Steele wants the DC job. I think he came here to be the next HC if Pruitt got canned. Phil didn't count on getting shown the door too.

I think Fulmer brought him in as insurance for Pruitt (probably already knew there would be issues with NCAA so to have him around as option if Pruitt needs to be gone - I'm sure at that time Fulmer did not count on himself being forced out as well).
Yup that's what I think

Then, why, did Fulmer hire him?

progression was like this...

Pruitt wanted the hire..

Once Pruitt was fired, Steele thought he might have shot at HC. Might even been talked to that he would be considered.. Not sure this is accurate, but heard the lawyers strongly recommended no one be the interim that had been here. They thought Steele best move

Once Heupel hired, they were a bad fit. So not Kevin just waiting on buyout..

Why is he still on staff and not shown the the road like Tee and Chaney? If I understand his contract right he gets his money one way or the other. Only possible way out would be for cause. I think his future is to be decided by the next DC where he could serve in a position to match his contract. If not he will in fact get his money at UT's election. The more I study this the more I think he was for sure hired as insurance to be a bridge like he was, possibly an interim where he could have auditioned for a year for the full time gig. I don't know how far down the list DW would have gone before he took that route, but I think we were close. There is no value add for him to take our money and run, even if he took another job, what we paid him and the next job paid him will come out of the AU money. He is at least at his own school here. I think he could help us if he is here. He is a bargain for us at AU's expense if he is a fit at all and that why he is still here. Has to be a good fit and we won't know that till we fill the position. Possible, but I doubt he serves as interim DC if we can't get an acceptable one this cycle.

Steele DOES NOT WANT the DC job. He’s getting DC buy-out money from Auburn to be an assistant at UT. Every dollar of salary we pay him only reduces his AU buy out, so it’s not like he’ll make any more money for taking a DC position.

If you were making CEO money to be a stock boy, would you give that up?

As a C-suite guy, I would never give that up if I had it. I sure as heck would ride it for as long as possible, especially if I was in a position to positively contribute to a business I held dear.

Y'all think Tennessee is bad at administrative decisions before? Other universities take advantage of our buyout coaches?

Who else could hire another coach for cheap because he's on a buyout, and still find a way to pay him a second buyout to not coach at Tennessee.

don't know if he is in the office today but he was not in office the last two days. They may have gotten everything they wanted from him.

He is not interested in a position coach IMO. a coordinator or head coaching spot only..

Can't speak why they held onto him to this point.. He has been discussing the roster with Heuple but that was early on after Heupel hired. My understanding is they have not talked in a good while now.
