Most OU fans hate the DC. Supposedly, he's pretty bad, and Stoops does most of the defensive stuff.

I can go for the OC though.

While we're at it, let's get all the SEC defensive coordinators to sign a petition agreeing to play crappy defense like Texas Tech.

While we are at it we may as well go ahead and get Josh Heapul(sp?) as the QB coach cause Bradford is carving up TTU's D.

I've thrown his name out there and I believe hat and groves have to. I'm sure there are others that have mentioned him and I'm sorry for excluding you, but hiring Brent Venables would not hurt my feelings one bit.

Venables has been mentioned several times as one of those that should and will land a HC job. He's done something in one half tonight no-one else has figured out to do the whole year.

i think its more that Texas tech hasnt handled being on the road well. all their other big games have been at home.

Any offensive coach would look good when their offensive line plays like that. In fact, OK's coaches are kind of braindead for not running that stretch play over and over again up and down the field. They never even needed to throw it.

I think hiring an OC or DC from a good team isn't a bad idea. A lot of Head Coaches got their start that way. Stoops was a DC at Florida, before he got the OU job.

On the other hand, Bob Stoops brother took the head coaching job at Arizona after being DC at OU. That didn't work out so well. The bottom line is, it's a leap of faith with whoever you hire, there is no perfect candidate.

I wouldn't mind Venables but isn't he rumored to go to Clemson..

Bob Stoops ex DC, Mike Leach ex OC, Urban Meyer ex Assistant HC defensive backs, Pete Carroll ex DC, Mark Richt ex OC these coaches would have never become HC without someone giving them a chance. TN is looking for the right fit, someone who will be dedicated and stay around. Our best decision could very easily be as simple as going after a current Coordinator on a winning team with experience and a successful background in recruiting and calling winning plays in huge ballgames. Kevin Wlson, Charlie Strong, Brian Venables, Dan Mullen are 4 canditates we should consider. Give a Coordinator a chance at a major university and we could look like a genius, If it fails then we simply hire someone else. There is no guarantee that a current HC can do it any better, you may think your buying experience but you could also be just buying a name.

Great post. This sums it up for me. Hire the best coach out there period. Who cares about the hype or "splash".

Techs D is worse than Mizzous. And that is saying something.

UT should have made a major push for Stoops long ago, with a $5 mil offer. Instead, they focus on Leach and Kelly, two overrated coaches. But, that's the reason the same brainiacs ended up paying fulmer $6 million on his way out!

How many national titles has Oklahoma won since Leach's QB's and influence have left Norman?
