Sitting in section 19 behind the Vols' bench yesterday evening, we UT fans and some very nice SCjr fans watched last night's hard-fought game with an additional dimension than that of some of these dubious posters who're assigning blame for such a disappointing outcome. UT's excessive TOP would've been an asset if only our guys had been able to spell those OL men who, by the fourth quarter, were so spent they could barely even stand up. To a very similar degree, UT's entire defensive squad was totally gassed, as well. All of those who witnessed this game...fans from both schools...couldn't help but notice and comment on the debacle on our sideline; that of a totally exhausted bunch of Vols trying to hold on against an obviously deeper squad of equally determined gamecocks. We had this game all the way until....until...yes, that's until, a drearily lack of substitutions on UT's O and D units finally began slowing our fellas down. This isn't just my view, let me remind y'all. This is what those football fans pulling from both sides noticed at the actual "scene of the crime." If you want to disagree, then at least first explain from where you observed this game. IMHO, the future is very bright in Big Orange Country...just the way it's rolling.

If Keller Chryst plays the entire game we win handily. There wasn’t one single play or one single throw that he could not have out performed JG at.

And I know the delusional JG nuts will be in soon claiming completion percentage and toughness and heart. I’ve heard it all guys. I love JG but if you can’t see by now that he’s hurting our chances of victory then you never will. So I’ll go ahead and say agree to disagree.

Damn this is what I been saying....just wow some one else with common sense who actually watched the game......our guys were outweighed and out strengthen. Eventually just wore down to nothing and that cost us the game....if anything else it was palmer and wr core who dropped countless balls down field......but hey it's coaches fault....this place is full of stupidity

You’re putting it on the receivers?! JG missed Palmer alone FOUR times. Ball wasn’t even touchable let alone catchable.

Does KC play defense? What position? No? Didn't think so... Stupid post is stupid.

The pathetic second half defensive performance is what cost us the game.

Both sides took knocks. Brantly wasn't the same after getting squashed in the endzone. Going for it on 4th and 7 near midfield was the bad coaching decision that cost us the game. Should've thrown some deep balls as well. We never tested their deep coverage and our guys had the height advantage even if we're slower. I think it helped us having the bye before Auburn and I'm sure that SC's bye last week helped them yesterday. They took advantage of our mistakes and they made adjustments at the half.

Not sure I understand, do you think that teams "rotate" offensive linemen throughout the game??? That doesnt occur unless the game is out of hand one way or the other.

I appreciate your post of what you observed from such a close distance. While many on volnation are in meltdown mode, while I hate it, it's simply going to take time and getting a couple of signing classes under Pruitt. One could make the argument Pruitt hasn't even had one class due to him obliging the Butch offers, which he should have. I have hope for the future, just wish the process wouldn't take so long. The fan base is hungry and been waiting a long time. GBO!

To the JG homers that doesn't matter. As long as his completion % is high, he is the bestest most awesomest QB ever.

Look at the game-time roster, 365. You won't need to look past UT's first five to recognize we've got a couple of out-of-position guys in there...and that's before we get to the two-deep roster. Then...take a look at USCjr's roster and make a comparison. Currently, we don't really go two-deep on the OL with guys ready-and-able to play SEC football. As for rotating offensive linemen: Full squads of 5 O-linemen aren't routinely rotated in and out, unless it's the fourth quarter and the game's comfortably under control. Unless you're otherwise inclined, howsa' 'bout you look up UT's "TOP" last night (That's "Time Of Possession"). Are you just arguing for argument's sake?

The defense played well enough for us to win if we had a QB that could complete more than a screen pass. The only reason it was close is because we have one of the best WR corps in the conference. Not because of QB play.

C'mon. Obliging offers? There was hardly anyone left when Butch was fired. A bunch of guys jumped back on as soon as we hired someone not named Schiano, but CJP was in no way obliged to take them and he tried to recruit over a lot of them.

That's confirmation bias. Find a point of view that supports yours but not the others. If you watched it on TV, you would hear the announcers talk about how Guarantano can avoid getting drilled every single time. Also, I know Pruitt mentioned in one post game about JG adjusting to avoid getting hit.

Also, not throwing behind the line of scrimmage the majority of the time would help. The defense obviously still can't stop a run.

I understand everything you guys are saying. But like CJP said, it is his fault. If my company struggles in sales, it is my fault even though I can't do everything for everybody. Now, he came into a poor performing company. Before I had my own, I worked for a Fortune 500 company and came into a responsibility where it was way under the goals of performance that were expected. Thirty year plus employees and a guy who had retired and coasted several years to get there. We struggled but made progress and eventually got it to where it needed to be after a few years. Got rid of a lot of employees (players) and hired some young new eager to show what they could do employees (recruits) and built things the right way with no shortcuts under the hand of a great operational VP (AD). We had a couple of tough years getting there and whose bonus was affected? The coach (me). However, I eventually got offered what I had been working almost a decade to get which was a promotion. I actually didn't take it and went to work for a smaller company but had to choice to live where I wanted and not have to be away from my wife and kids as much. Then went to start my own start up. Regardless, the failures along the way were still by ultimate responsibility to get corrected and obtain results. I do believe CJP feels the same way about this job. We fail and it is his fault regardless of the hand dealt. He knew it when he took it. Now, I hope the AD and powers above him as well as the rest of us fans will give him the same chance to turn it around that I was given. It takes wise and mature people to have patience. And yes, we have had plenty of it but it is not going to help to get impatient now. Take the little victories (Auburn) and the progress you see and enjoy it.

So after being in Fitzgerald's S&C program for 10 months, 2/3 of the way through the season, the defense can't muster 21 minutes of game-time in October night temps without getting utterly gassed?

Not sure we can blame Butch and company for that problem at this point.

No, just saying it is extremely rare for O-line guys to swap in and out. Do backups come in for special sets (extra linemen sets) guys that get dinged that go out for a play or two etc. But good teams dont "rotate" linemen on offense

We controlled TOP. Dominant, in fact.

Told my son as we were watching the game, our Defense should stay fresh with all these long 7 minute sustained drives. Something Butch used to kill us with.....the hurry up and punt offense.

No excuse for the for the defense to be gassed. None.
