Just Back From The Alamodome...

This season was not a success. WE lost. I was very excited throughout most of this season, but last night just took the air right out of my sail. WE had that game, but we let them off the hook. I will be the first-ever BP critic on here: why did your team play so poorly the second have, how can you fix the countless mistakes(turnovers, fouls, bad-looks, etc) your team made last night, and why did your team give up last night?
Exactly when did Tennessee "give up?" Ohio State caught them with plenty of time on the clock. If the Vols had quit, they would have gotten beaten by 10+. A truly ridiculous assertion.

I am very disappointed about how we lost last night - because we blew a 20 point lead, and because we lost by 1. When you lose by one, there are so many "what if?" 's.

But I'm not ready to say that this season was not a success because we lost. Going by that way of thinking, the only team that will have a successful season is the one that wins the tournament.

I am proud of the team. This is a team that I thought coming into the season was an NCAA bubble team at best and I would've been pleased if I'd been told before the season (or even when we were 2-4 & 3-5 in the conference) that this was a Sweet Sixteen team.

There were alot of fouls made by Tennessee especially in the 2nd half, and some questionable shot selection early in the 2nd half when TOSU was making their run, but I'm not ready to say that Tennessee ever gave up, and I think that they only had 7 turnovers for the game.

That was also my expectation... somewhere around 17-19 wins and on the bubble. Needless to say, those expectations were met and thensome. Next year will be a lot of fun. That, along with just how good this season was, will become more clear as the sting of this loss wears off I believe.

Being disappointed is one thing, but I have no clue how you could watch that game and think that a single player laid down in the 2nd half.

I dont think they laid down, just made poor choices and didnt make free throws. I agree also, the loss is definetly disappointing, but at the beginning of the year no way would I have said Sweet Sixteen. Tough loss to take, but great season also.

UT's last three years have gone not in tourney, round of 32, round of 16. Next year on paper looks to be the best yet, as the coach that made the progressive steps is finally getting some talent and experience at the same time. The fact that we lost to the #1 team in the country by a point after controlling the game in the first half in no way diminishes the accomplishments of the players or coaches.

The year was a success because we overachieved. It was a success because UT is in the national spotlight in basketball for the first time in a long time. It was a success because it was a step towards becoming a premier program.

I sometimes wonder if people realize just how big a step forward we have taken. Forget the trainwrecks of the Buzz Peterson years . . . Pre - Bruce Pearl we had only won 8 NCAA tournament games in the entire history of the program.

going from a 14-17 record to a sweet 16 team 2 years later is a successful turnaround in my book.

Yeah, but didn't you hear? We gave up last night.

The only thing we gave up last night is any hope that we can sneak up on anybody ever again. I think the cat is permanently out of the bag when it comes to Tennessee basketball.

Hat at halftime did you think we had so much momentum we would take this game or did you feel more nervous because we were up?
i was definitely happy, but i also knew that OSU had a run in them. i in no way thought we had that game at half time.

this is a bit ridiculous. we didn't let them off the hook, as i watched the game, i saw OSU assert itself on the defensive side and i also saw Thad Matta use Gregg Oden superbly down the stretch on the defensive side of the ball. that was one of the best basketball games i've seen, period. After OSU got back in it, we answered every time OSU took the lead or hit a big shot. we did not lose this game because of lack of efforr or an over abundance of mistakes. there were mistakes, and i'll show you four freshman that played thru out the game that will make mistakes at times. as they get older and more experience, they'll get better. they did nothing to not make me proud as hell of them.

 as usual.

Laid down? Haha. A post like that is so ascinine that we know you are either not serious or know absolutely nothing about basketball. I do hope some of our poor free throw shooters spend extra time at the line over the offseason. Crews needs a lot of work on his shot and I do not think he will ever be a good FT shooter, but he could still improve quite a bit. Ramar and Chism on the other hand could become good FT shooters. What you saw the second half was a result of a superior team turning it on and showing what they were made of. We knew that run was coming. They are too good of a team. I promise you Pearl told them at halftime that a run was coming and not to expect to hold a 20 point lead the whole second half. We played as hard as we could and we executed very well. If we hit FT's we overcome their run and win. Laid down? Haha.

I've heard that Lofton, Jujuan, Ramar, and Duke have all dedicated theirselves to improving FTs but Chism hasn't yet. Not sure about the rest of the team.

Exactly. The only thing more ridiculous than the assertion that we quit last night is the moron sitting behind me last night who kept talking about how he could make all the free throws we missed.

Heckuva game. . . .who would have thought that we'd be up 20 with 3 on Oden and still lose. It's going to sting for a little while. But, I'm with you, Hat -- you've got to respect what Bruce and these kids have done.

If, after the preseason NIT, I predicted that we'd make the sweet 16 and play OSU to within one shot, most would have called me absurd. We had a great year, beat Vandy, Kentucky, Memphis, and Florida (along with quite a few other quality non-conference teams), gained a ton of national exposure, gained NCAA tourney experience, and had a lot of fun doing so.

So, fellow mourners: catch up on the missed sleep tonight and reflect on what may well prove to be a real "turning year" of sorts for Tennessee Basketball. Remember that we are returning the SEC POY and a team comprised largely of Freshmen. The future looks bright, and I'm dang proud to be a Vol.

Now, did somebody say something about some football???

Tough loss last night. I have never felt good after a loss but we must smile a little because of the direction the program is headed. I too am a very proud UT fan today.

I said it to some friends last night and I will say it again. Last night's loss will propel next year's team into the final four. This loss will leave a bad taste in their mouths and believe me Bruce will remind them everyday of this loss.
