If Davenport got to put some stipulations on the hire and those were that the candidate should have experience as a power 5 AD, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

If what Hyams said about Jimmy Haslam wanting Currie is accurate, then Currie was likely going to be the guy one way or another.

I don't see how anyone on the committee could not have known about the situation between Fulmer and Currie, unless that committee member wasn't around the program until after 2008. And even then, I just find it hard to believe it wouldn't have come up in conversation.

Sounds like the only way to have avoided division would have been to name Blackburn the AD before the start of the year. Yet the fact that it didn't happen, says that even then, it wouldn't have been unanimous.

So they say Currie seems like an a$$hole. Well, Nick Saban seems like an a$$hole too, but he's pretty good at his job.

There are a few folks out there that are in an uproar about this hire because of some legitimate insight to the program. However, the majority of folks are in an uproar because they'd hopped on either the Blackburn or Fulmer bandwagons based on what they read in the media and/or on message boards. Yes, it sounds like this whole process could have been conducted better, but I'm not going to pretend to have enough first hand knowledge of the situation to be in an uproar over it.

Hopefully some of these burned bridges can be rebuilt, but one thing's for sure, it'll take time. All we can do is let it play out.

Pretty sure the fix was in. Tennessee is well funded by a small group. That group has the power to pull strings. Within that group, I believe, there is one person who controls which strings are pulled and when.

Fulmer has a history of being able to put the best interest of UT above personal feelings. He will do his part in moving things forward in the correct direction.

Does TN not have a Public Relations department? It seems like they are on the wrong end of negative publicity on a regular basis. That being said I am not gonna crucify this guy before he even starts. I wanted to see Blackburn get hired but if this guy was able to win AD of the year in middle of nowhere Kansas that says something.

One key problem with your attempted sunshine pump. Saban had a national championship under his belt when he was hired. Currie has a solid record of mediocrity.

Two counter points:
Saban did not have a national championship before he got hired at LSU, but still acted like an a$$hole even then.

Currie was named national AD of the year in 2013. Not the same as a national championship for a coach, but nevertheless..

And how many sports has he elevated Kansas State in before or after receiving this "award"? Perhaps women's basketball?

Shudda hired Terry Bowden four years ago then. Bet some of those strings would have been snapped.

I think Jimmy H. Might be on to something.if it's the truth I was floored that Blackburn did not interview with the TN search party.i was under the impression both fulmer, Blackburn were going to talk to Bev,n the TN ppl.its sounds pretty shady if she dismissed interviewing them.i see Haslem pushed them on the new Guy (IMO he is just the new guy right now). The vote wasn't unanimous.haslem needs to move to Cleveland with his team,I don't want AD , or Bev that is already in someone pocketbook.just too many new questions ,not enough answers. It's beginning to smell like everthing was preplanned.the fans deserve better than just dismissing their ideas without a sit down interview with blackburn.Hartless and his crew lied enough.According to Kansas State they wanted him gone, if we were lied to then it's cheeks n Hartless all over again running the program.heck I need answers. We can't afford to have them still destroying TN from inside out.what about Peytons input? Omg we really are in a deep hole

Omg haven't we given enough time to rebuild this program? Now they want more time. We can't keep doing this for the next 10 years

I think that another way to interpret this hire is that the new chancellor signaled the boosters that she isn't going to prioritize their opinions choosing instead to hire someone who clearly has enemies in K-town and who will be completely dependent on her for any longevity.

Okay I'll be the guy. What qualifications does Phil Fulmer have to be athletic director other than being a head football coach that has won a national championship? Does he have any experience in overseeing a complete athletic department and managing it? Yes he's always had a passion for Tennessee but that's not a qualification to oversee a complete athletic department.

The politics surrounding the hiring of our AD is full of political intrigue. The politics just continue to hinder our Athletic Department. The rank and file need to revolt as best they can.

You can have a figurehead AD who is propped up by a good staff. I don't know whether Phil could've assembled that sort of staff or if people who are currently there would give him that support.

Some one has been pulling it for quite a while.

If revolt means attend every Vol event and game I possibly can, then I'm in.

If revolt means to stop going to games, stop wearing orange daily, stop collecting Vol related memorabilia, and start bashing our players coaches and administration as often as possible, then I'm out.

This is a, "We'll see." , kind of year.

We'll see.:

1) Who will our new QB will be?
2) How will our new QB pan out?
3) How will our new coaches impact our team?
4) How will our new AD impact our program?
5) How petty will our fan base be?

The parts are in place, for 99.99% of us all we can do is wait and see.

As for the .01%, they need be working, no days off till Jan. 9, 2018.

Plan A, see y'all in Atlanta 3 times this season.

Release the Beast!

Been watching the Dems bellyache for the past few days about Trump and why he is only 'words' and little 'action' at this time. Helloooo? He has been in office 42 days.

Currie is our man. I am going to back him anyway I can as a VFL. How he got here is totally meaningless (including any far left, right or center conspiracies) as is his past with the UTAD and any former staff.

Knoxville needs unity. Currie and our new Chancellor have a completely clean slate and I for one am anxious to see them succeed. We all want and, need this to happen.

The family runs a gas station, and the worst NFL team in professional football.
This automatically makes them qualified to destroy Tennessee athletics.

I know this is a K-State fluff piece selling their own, but I'm believing these statements are true.

Athletics Director - KSU Wildcats

..."has included team Big 12 Championships in football (2012), men’s basketball (2013) and baseball (2013), 16 team NCAA tournament appearances in men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and baseball, and 50 individual Big 12 and nine individual NCAA Championships."...

..."three sports, including football, currently leading the Big 12 in APR rating and an all-sports graduation rate exceeding that of the general student body."...

..."Record attendance across all sports, including a current streak of 27 consecutive football sellouts"...

..."the only university in Kansas and one of just two dozen nationally to operate in the black without any state tax or university tuition dollars or subsidies."...
