Juneteenth

as a Holiday? no.

why its important, or what it actually is, yes.

go back to the start of this thread, its kinda embarrassing how little people knew about it. the "weird" naming convention was part of the history of the matter, and people don't even know that basic fact.
I wasn't around at the beginning of this thread, but I know the stupidity of the holiday. How many times was it brought up on this site before the St George Floyd stupidity? It was never anything before the Floyd stupidity. Certainly not nationally.

No, not retired I just don't get vacation. None of my management get formal vacation, my policy is take off when you can but when you have to work you better be there.
My Dad has been in sales for nearly 50 years. His company doesn't offer any paid holidays.

You're advocating to get rid of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Columbus Day, MLK Day(?), Labor Day, New Years Day?

Would you like me to start on all of the other stupid days, weeks, and months?
No I am "advocating" for actually understanding what you are talking about.

Good Friday was never a federal holiday. so it makes no sense to compare it to one.

Apparently junetenth didn’t until a couple years ago. Of course based on your argument there’s a lot of holidays that shouldn’t be observed.
there are a ton of holidays that aren't observed. I am working on Juneteenth and you won't see me complaining about it.

go back and look at the history of any of the US holidays. its not like they were started back in 1796. July 4th wasn't even recognized as a federal holiday until 1870, and wasn't made paid day off for federal employees until 1941.

Then why did you tie holidays to government relevance?

Never said it was. Good Friday is more of a southern state thing as far as holidays go, I grew up outside of the south. Other people in this thread recently have already talked about it if you want to ask them.

this site brought it up when it became a federal holiday. there was no reason for this POLITICS FORUM to discuss it before the government got involved.

I didn't quote you to start this conversation. you jumped in.

So no one gave a crap about it until the George Floyd stupidity. Thank you for proving my point.

We've been conversing for quite a while now. Like over a half hour.... Why do you not support having all of those holidays I mentioned? It was a direct response to your direct response to me by the way... Don't be huff, don't be weird.

It’s called a public forum….
which is fine. but he is asking why there was an ongoing conversation, that he apparently doesn't like. I was talking about X, he brings up Y while complaining that I am talking about X and not Y, when Y was not the conversation at hand.

Whoa, when did that happen? I'm right here....

too late. I am weird. I am embraced that a LONG time ago.

I could see justification for Labor Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, the 4th, Juneteenth, Thanksgiving. each has a specific tie to America, and generally good and or important things to the country, and doesn't celebrate an individual.

I have always thought New Years was more of a logistical holiday. where you either give everyone the day off, or no one shows up to work anyway. I kinda think Super Bowl Monday should be the same. at least give a half day.

any of the others probably should be dropped. at the least shouldn't be paid days off. I don't really care if the government recognizes Dale Earnharts birthday if nothing changes on that day besides some tweet from the Oval Office.

You would really drop established holidays while seeing the need for Juneteenth? It wasn't even a thing before the Patron St of Fentanyl killed himself. That's weird.

This is all in response to the first sentence of your post #913 in this thread by the way..

I’m just giving examples of companies that observed Good Friday as a holiday, somehow became “enlightened”, and then suddenly decided to observe juntenth. Many of these companies love to decorate in rainbows certain types of the year and decline to put up a Christmas tree so as not to “offend” anyone.

That alphabet crap is a religion.

I work for a bank and had the day off. I'm not sure why but I heard it has something to do with Republicans freeing slaves.

My office had the day off today as well, so I used the free day and some annual leave to free myself from the boundaries of the state of Georgia for a few days and head up to E. TN.
