I wouldn't complain if it was a paid holiday that my company offers but they don't. He is a UT employee and probably assumes everyone gets it off since he does.

I don't care that some companies offer it as a paid holiday, it shouldn't be a paid federal holiday for govt slugs.

Damn. We give those plus Labor and Memorial days, Good Friday, the Day after Thanksgiving and if Christmas/New Years falls on a Thursday the day after those.

It was born out of the St George Floyd, the Patron Saint of fentanyl, stupidity. No one outside of some parts of Texas had ever heard of this Juneteenth until the stupidity. It was rushed and passed during this stupidity. I get all federal holidays off so I'm good. Others don't and have given up previously established holidays for this new stupidity. Others have pointed out the silliness of something that was never around outside of extremely small pockets. Absolutely none of this has anything to do with whether or not the slaves should have been freed. No one has argued that.

Also, don't forget to read up on Memorial Day origins.

People don’t mind that it’s a paid holiday. They mind how they went about making it a paid holiday by removing another. The hypocrisy of the “woke” that they won’t eat the cost of just adding another holiday. If it’s that important and something they feel so strongly about it should be a small price to pay.
