Jumbotron Update

Good riddance. That crappy graphic looked like it was taken from a Pigeon Forge airbrushed T-shirt. I am glad it will be moldering inthe garbage next to the tape of the howling Smokey.

Gimme da V-O-L-S!!

I agree..that graphic was so tacky.

Yes! I agree so much. I hope that they don't replace it with anything else super tacky. I like this new look the stadium is getting. That T and the fact that the outside looked like a giant erector set always slightly annoyed me. I bet after the renovations the stadium is hailed as the greatest place on earth ever of all time.

Are they planning on eventually covering up most of the outside? I know they're covering part of it but most of it will still look bad on the outside this season.

I am 99% sure the brick for Gate 10 and 21 will not be this year. So yea, It will still look like an erector set from the outside. lol

I believe they will eventually get all the way around with brick, but it will be a while. They are just focusing on the part of the stadium that the majority of the fans see most, which is the visitors sideline (west sideline). They are also doing the two large gate areas of 10 and 21 on the north west and south west corners of the stadium, but these won't be done until after this season.

I am sure I could look all of this up online; however I think I remember that this is a 10 year plan.

I am not 100% sure this is accurate but I think it is pretty close.

2009
• Renovation of the west sideline top lower level concourse
• Removal of the scissor ramps leading to west upper deck
• Addition of elevators and stairwells on the west side to increase fan accessibility and improve the traffic flow infrastructure of the stadium
• Improvements to the west tower, including sky box and press center updates
• Construction of the West Club
2010
• Creation of a Gate 21 Plaza
• Renovation of northeast lower concourse (completion of work started in Phase I)
• A brick and wrought iron façade along the north and west outside of Neyland Stadium
• Statue of Gen. Neyland added to west side entrance "In November 2004 we unveiled the master plan for Neyland Stadium, to serve as a long-term solution to issues currently facing our stadium," Hamilton continued. "These renovations will help prepare Neyland Stadium for the next 75 years of service to the Volunteer Nation."
Upon the completion of Phase III renovations in 2010, 60 percent of the Neyland Stadium renovations will have been finished. The timing of Phases IV and V is contingent upon available funding and the university's master plan facility schedule.

I think this is what I saw. Unveiled in 2004 and 60% done in 2010 made me think it was a 10 year plan. I cannot wait until it is finished. It should be one of the premiere stadiums in the country.

Not quite. It is big - but that was about it until the most recent renovations began. It was old, cramped, dirty and run down.

It's not supposed to be like a trip to the spa for cryin' out loud. Haha. It's football!

I'm with awebb. Yes, Neyland is big, but it was in need of some updates in terms of facilities, as all stadiums need from time to time. Once all this is complete, it will be big and very nice.

Neyland needs seats with backs.

Yeah, about 20% less fans and less noise/rowdiness, that would rule!

Actually, as GAVOL pointed out to me, seats with backs are likely an impossibility at Neyland because of the lack of space between rows. My knees already hit the person in front of me all game long.

Here's a bad picture. I was driving.
