This thread is amazing. Here we are, witnessing the death of a legendary (at least to us,) scoreboard and witnessing the birth of something new and promising to be awesome for a new era in UT football. I'll be checking daily! :rock:

It looks like they are pulling out the electronic parts first, then they will dismantle the frame. Wonder if they are selling the electronics to another school? That would explain this process.

Why would they want to leave anything up there regarding old wire/boards? I would imagie it is all coming out, regardless if they have someone to buy it or not.

I doubt they're selling anything off of it... Main reason they're getting rid of it is parts for that vintage are becomming obsolete.

There are some useable parts that are being sold to schools that still have the older boards.

Part of the frame will stand and be used in the new board as backing and support.

Yeah, they decided with the economy the way it is that they would just take it down. Hamilton said it cost too much money to run so they are taking it down. Pictures above to show what it will look like this season.

took these snapshots today while on campus. The last one of the jumbotron is taken from close to tba and you can see where they are making a bridge to take you from the platform of tba over to the parking garage.

Is that going to be the full size of the jumbotron or will they expand on the overall size from the pics there?

Good riddance. That crappy graphic looked like it was taken from a Pigeon Forge airbrushed T-shirt. I am glad it will be moldering inthe garbage next to the tape of the howling Smokey.
