Jumbotron Update

Some Obie at KPD would take offense to that...

Now friends, there was only one or two things that Obie coulda done at
the police station, and the first was he could have given us a medal for
being so brave and honest on the telephone, which wasn't very likely, and
we didn't expect it, and the other thing was he could have bawled us out
and told us never to be see driving garbage around the vicinity again,
which is what we expected, but when we got to the police officer's station
there was a third possibility that we hadn't even counted upon, and we was
both immediately arrested. Handcuffed. And I said "Obie, I don't think I
can pick up the garbage with these handcuffs on." He said, "Shut up, kid.
Get in the back of the patrol car."

but when we got to the
Scene of the Crime there was five police officers and three police cars,
being the biggest crime of the last fifty years, and everybody wanted to
get in the newspaper story about it. And they was using up all kinds of
cop equipment that they had hanging around the police officer's station.
They was taking plaster tire tracks, foot prints, dog smelling prints, and
they took twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy photographs with circles
and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each
one was to be used as evidence against us. Took pictures of the approach,
the getaway, the northwest corner the southwest corner and that's not to
mention the aerial photography.

Very...very well played.

VQ: Where are you on stadium renovations? Is that on track? Also, on the new video board, how much do you believe that will add to the fans' experience?

MH: We're on track, we're on schedule. Slated to be finished, I think, Aug. 26 with this phase and then we'll bid the next phase in early fall to begin construction in November, and that will be completed before the 2010 season. The JumboTron project is slated to begin June 15. It will have more effect than any of us may realize right now. When you take the entire structure, the orange outline and the board, and imagine that being all LED (light emitting diode) it will be powerful in terms of its look.

Now during the course of the game there will be some advertisements on there and there will be the game clock and the scoreboard and all those kinds of things. But we have the ability to make that entire screen a picture of something. And, I think it will have a huge impact.

Nice. Thanks for the post.

OK, first of all, I am a Bama fan but come in peace.:peace2:

I just wondered what the renovations are at Neyland. I see all about this jumbotron, but what else is going on? Is this the phase that is going to reduce your capacity to 104k or 102k? Is it just upgrades? Are they adding a brick facade to the exterior to make it more visually appealing?

Sorry for all the questions, just curious more than anything.

They are really doing all of the above. They are widening concources on the area that is under construction now(most of the other sections have been already. They are renovating the oldest pressbox in this phase. Making it more visually appealing and nicer for the donors that have those seats. Should be state of the art for the 2010 season!

That should answer all your questions.

thank, all, but I think Neyland will still be bigger than Bryant Denny. When we are finished, we will not be at 102k . Just under.

But the renderings look great. And widening the concourses is a definite plus, in my opinion. I like going to Neyland but t hose concourses are NARROW!

We will be at 100,011 when everything is finished...not 102,000.

Snapped a couple pics...they were working on the jumbotron, but hadn't removed it..

That old jumbotron was the largest in the NCAA when it was built ten years ago. Apparently you don't realize how new the technology to do thsi is.

jwells, when did you take those photos? I'm amazed at the stadium progression, I was in Knoxville on Sunday night and Monday morning and walked by the stadium to check the construction out while I was picking up some gear from Tennessee Traditions. They were working at about 7:00 on Sunday night. That surprised me.

Im sure past a certain date they will lose a large amount of money per day they arent finished. You will prolly see a lot more of that all the way up till season.

It is so sad when I drive across Henley Street Bridge to go to work every day and I look across the river and don't see the "VOLS" on top of the jumbotron anymore. But, I believe that the new screen will be worth it. I'm really contemplating about sending Hammy an e-mail telling him that I think they should really consider finding a new home for the "VOLS" somewhere in the stadium.

I drove by today and there was even more of the siding up. It is changing almost daily now. Also, a lot of work is being done inside that we can't even see from the street.

Took them on Thursday afternoon, right before that storm hit.
