Jumbotron Update

If UT decides to against using the "V O L S" on the current scoreboard, Freak could buy them and stick them up on his roof. He does have the best Vols site on the web. Might as well get a little attention in the real world too!!!!!!

Or we could throw them on the Sunsphere.......

i know those ads on the backside of the jumbotron are just there for effect, but i wish that whoever does put an advertisement back there will do something like what's in the renderings. that middle shot with the team running out of the tunnell with the adidas logo on it is awesome.

also, as i've stated earlier, i hope they move the vols to the other side of the stadium. surely someone can ask around and maybe get an answer?

also, the wrought iron header with the four combining T's is just sick. when i was originally looking at it, i could tell there were aspects that resembled Ts, but it wasn't until they showed the diagram that i understood fully what was going on. i love it.

The ads pictured are the exact artwork that will be on the board this fall. They can be changed year to year, but those are the designs.

I agree, spectacular detail.

Hopefully the VOLS will be moved to the other side of the stadium.

Yes! This should absolutely happen!

As for the jumbo tron, I like the wrought iron design across the top. I think that looks very classy! I have to say though I'm disappointed in the dimensions. I was actually hoping that it would be as big or bigger than the "Godzilla tron" in Texas, just for the bragging rights. Of course, the area where the Godzilla tron is mounted is much lower than where our jumbo tron will be mounted. Perhaps there are some engineering issues that would've prevented it. Who knows? Either that or they didn't want to pony up the dough for a bigger size.

There would have to be some major supports to hold that thing up on top of our stadium.

I am pretty sure they were trying to work within the current structure.

So texas size is 134x55, and ours is 125x37..

not too much different.. there's is just a little taller.. ours is about the same width. but hopefully our HD effectiveness is better :)

Dang. That is one sweet jumbotron. They are going to have that up and ready for the Fall. Better get cranking.

that looks fantastic... just wish they'd figure a way to have it there minus those god awful ugly off white poles.

Actually, the new board will weigh less than half of what the current structure weighs, because of the difference in technology. It's best explained like this: Think of how much lighter a 50 inch flatscreen is compared to an old 50 inch bigscreen.

The new lighter boards have been great for indoor arenas, but have posed some challenges for outdoor stadiums. In fact, there is some weight that has been added to the new board to keep it from swaying in the wind.

Note to self: ALWAYS sit in the North endzone!
