I am going to assume that you have never talked to a recruit that has been shown screen shots of messages on a message board. I know a recruit that was not involved with Tennessee that was shown comments from an Auburn board that influenced his decision to go elsewhere.

Each school has people whose focus is to watch the message boards. They are asked to report incidents where posters claim to be in contact with recruits and they copy posts. That is where much of the negative recruiting comes from.

That's the dumbest damn thing I've heard in awhile. So a recruit bases his career path on a random poster on a website? Sorry but I don't buy it.

Do you really think a 17 year old choosing which school to attend equivalates to choosing a career path?

Here's what you have to believe to think that a message board can influence a recruit:

1. Recruits are aware that they are being discussed on the internet.
2. Recruits are vain/curious enough to search for themselves on the internet.
3. Recruits can read.
4. Recruits are interested in reading message board threads that have their name as a subject.
5. Recruits can wade through all the unrelated crap that's posted in a thread bearing their name.
6. Something that's posted either about a recruit or in a recruit's thread could be found undesirable by the recruit and/or their family.
7. That someone with the emotional maturity of a 17 year old (ex. myself) could have his mind slightly changed by the undesirable content (ex. "delfonic is a turd") and decide that he doesn't want to put himself in a situation where people other folks (ex. you guys) think he is a turd.

Without empirical data to suggest otherwise, I think all the assumptions I've made are pretty reasonable. Maybe I'm missing something?

I agree with #7. 😂

Actually, no. It has never been the deciding factor, to my knowledge. But, to believe that a recruit is not impacted by what is said or implied on a message board is burying your head in the sand.

Plus, I can guarantee you that assistants at other schools are on this board and others, mining it for posts that speak badly of a recruit. That allows a coach from the school to point out to the recruit what is being said about him. Most recruits take this with a grain of salt. But, in a close decision, It could sway things against us.

What was said badly about Davis, in this thread? All I've seen, is how bad we want to flip him from Bama.

I said Bama must've already promised his mom a high paying job earlier in the thread since it was said that Davis wanted to flip his commitment to the Vols while at OCD but his mom said no. Then TuckerVol proceeded to lecture me about how I make recruits not want to come here. lol.

Oh. Come on, that's funny and probably close to the truth.

With Emerson we have an amazing class for the DLINE, if we can get the JUCO from SC and flip Davis that would be the cherry on top of the DLINE haul.

According to de1conley, this kid is legit. He raved about him. This is the one who needs to be on top of our board. Our DL is about to be the best in the country and he needs to be on it

I think this kid is legit, but De1's opinion carries as much weight as mine: which is none.
