So today while I was working, I'm just thinking about everything that happened the past couple weeks and I realized that we are in a age of media click bait and awful journalism.

I mean it was about as bad as it gets when it came to our coaching hire. Literally false or inaccurate report after inaccurate report. We hired four coaches I'm pretty sure according to multiple different sporting outlets and offered Jon Gruden $10 mil a year, while he was out searching for a coaching staff!? What in the actual hell is going on with the media??!

Gruden trolled the fanbase for fun and money and that's ****ty to do but whatever. What is funny is Jimmy Hyams and the Jeff Brohm debacle. I don't care for Jimmy, he's an idiot and I'm glad he made himself look like an ass.

That being said, why has it gotten to this point? Is it people searching for just clicks = money or are we just at a point in time where people say whatever will get them attention and throw sh** at a wall and see what sticks?

When something was reported way back when, it meant something (except for AL Gore, NBC really blew their load on that one lol).

It's more that the audience demands constant, up to the second information, and don't understand that what they're wanting is impossible to do. Hell, just look at this board and see how pissed they were that Currie wasn't giving a play-by-play of what he was doing. And now, when a guy actually gets stuff verified, he gets crucified for being late.

The 4th estate or column as some refer to it, is long gone in this county. It's now a tool and extension of the political demons running this country. There are some sources for reliable information, but they are getting harder to find and those that do share the truth are frequently attacked and mocked. Use your head and a critical eye. You'll recognize the truth when you see it....assuming you want the truth. Many don't. Head in the sand as the cage is built around them. They don't even seen the cage door being closed. Stupid, vapid, amoral and brain dead society we live in.

Columnist rule the "news" world. Sure they have new information at times, but mostly they "report" their opinion about the "news".

Journalism itself wasn't terrible but there are a lot of terrible sources.

Many talking heads attacked UT because it was the popular thing to do.

If you are trying to make a broader point, it is a divisive time where depending on your views one prefers to hear an opinion from someone on their side about news rather than actual objective news.

I see a split, but its not even. Hard to find good writers in any form of journalism. Actually, Id say sports is lucky, it has a lot of great writers/journalists. The problem arises in sports with the "first to report" aspect. But, I mean, if you want to complain spend a few hours flipping thru CNN/Fox News/MSNBC etc. Check out google "news" and yahoo "news". It is complete garbage. It isnt the industry's fault, its the ppl. We are a horrible, horrible group of ppl. Still probably have the greatest values of any major power that has ever existed, yet look at what we read. ---Sports writing is great compared to all other forms.

EDIT: Also, I feel like reporting is different that journalism. If you want to improve the quality, then read/subscribe/pay the people you think are doing a good job. Send them emails and let them know. Share their links and stories on social media. It is a hard go for that industry right now

The new social media stuff is a whole new world. It's good and bad. It totally spun the last presidential race. We got trump because of it.

About the only reliable, accurate news is sports statistics. Virtually everything else is an opinion piece in some way.

The birth of reality TV with huge viewership in the 90's proved the low IQ of the American population. The news simply adapted to improve ratings and thus revenue. There is very little true journalism anymore....they all repeat crap for ratings.

It's not how accurate we want our news it's how fast we get it. It's the world we live in; just look how biased Fox News and MSNBC are. People just watch what they want to hear not what's actually real news.

:p:p:p:pJournalism in Knoxville will remain at an all time low until the fans rise up and force the owners of the Knoxville News Sentinel to fire jerks like Sports Editor John Adams, who has always been against the UT Volunteers. They need to bring back great sports editors like Tom Siler and Marvin West.

It took the coaching search fiasco for you to notice?

Congrats on coming outta the coma. That age had already started when Al Gore invented the internet.

I miss Woodward and Bernstein (Woodstein as Ben Bradley called them collectively), but I don't pay much attention to local yokels.

Journalism used to be about being accurate and reporting impartially....now its just about being FIRST.

Well, if we are going to keep gobbling it up, they are going to keep serving it to us.

Ignoring them makes them go away. Just like Pauly Shore movies.
