I'm not saying I want the 50th ranked class...I want all of them to turn into the best football players in the country...but as far as perception
that UT is back, recruiting rankings isn't where it's at... its a start though...

a big win goes a lot farther...

We had a huge win this year. Against USCe who ended up ranked 4th at the end of the year

gotta have the players first brohombre

who cares? lol trying to act like you don't care. clearly it won't affect how this class plays on the field but the perception is that a top 5 class is better than a top 10 and a top 10 is better than a top 15 and so on.

So yes, I do hope this team finishes ranked in the top 5 of every service because it would only help better the perception that TN is on the rise and then all they have to do is back it up on the field.

Too funny. like you don't care... lol get real man. you're so hardcore vol man you don't even care about rankings. how does one obtain the ability to not care about stars or rankings anyway? Share with your fellow brethren friend. Why would you withhold such valuable information from us? While you may disagree, I’m sure there is more room than you think amongst the chosen vol fans who are without care for rankings or stars of vol recruits. You have my attention…

Just shut up.

So you do want elite players or not? I must be lost, I thought you were posting on a recruiting forum.... as if it mattered to you.

Obviously, wins matter. Yes.

Can't wait to hear reports of Malone and Pearson. I know it doesn't make a bit of sense, but Pearson looks really explosive, just in the images we are seeing from the workouts. If you look fast in pictures... You fast

I agree. The dreads are being blown back in all of his pictures.

Definitely fast.

You basing that on the photos--or do you have other info to share with us?

There is film of Malone...hell, go back and look at North's high school film and he WAS the reason why we beat our first ranked team in 3 years. You can say a kid will be a program changer without even seeing them play. Just look at Hurd, he convinced half the class to sign and at least got top prospects like Malone and others to look at what we got to offer.

At the receiver position, Von Pearson and Josh Malone continue to be talked about. Malone is very polished for a true freshman. Much more so than Marquez North was a year ago. Remember North played a lot of quarterback and running back in high school. Malone has been a receiver and it shows. - VQ

I like croom but if he doesn't learn to use his body and high point the ball then any 5'9" db can cover and play with him.

Ya he's the softest playing 230lb WR ever haha. Even that long completion vs KY he stuck a hand in to prevent the int instead of bodying the db. Hope to see him progress a lot this year.

4. Croom is going to be really good. He is so much bigger than the DB's.

I feel bad for Croom. He was having a breakout game which is a HUGE confidence-builder for a young WR only to get hurt during it. But seeing him refuse to let that ball loose from his grip knowing how bad a broken collarbone is and how bad it must've hurt was epic. And before anyone downplays that by saying you can't move your arms when your collarbone breaks... while that's true it's not like you physically lose the ability to grip the ball. Croom chose to hang onto that ball as though it was the most important thing in the world for him.

THAT is worth taking note of. He's far from 'soft' though he still has to learn to use his body.

However, keep in mind most young males don't get their growth spurt until HS and some don't really hit a spurt until college and Croom got his in middle school. A lot of those who do hit it early have a tendency to be embarrassed/shy or even a bit awkward about their height when it they grow that early. Tall guys and gals also get picked on when they grow tall so far ahead of others and to make matters worse, early growth spurts can make players less coordinated that they will be when they grow into their bodies or would be if they hit that same spurt in HS.

Croom, like my own brother, hit his growth spurt young although my bro was slightly taller earlier, reaching 6'4 in middle school. Now at 6'6' he's a good inch taller than Croom yet to this day my brother is self-conscious because his height came early and he has to stoop just to pass through doorways. And when you're a foot or more taller than your friends for years, it's not easy and often leaves a mark - you don't use your frame to your advantage the way guys who grow at a more normal speed do as it's an early natural advantage rather than a learned or coached advantage.

Personally, I have no doubt that Croom is still learning to use it height in football and since he's now surrounded by tall guys and being coached to do so he will get better at that. He won't play like he's 5'9' for much longer. And having speed to spare, he'll be a force to reckon with if he keeps up the progress.

We're fortunate to be stacked at WR with North, Malone, Pearson and Croom among others.

But people meed to give Croom his due, he showed potential greatness at the UK game and that wasn't due to UK's defense but rather due to him upping his game. He's come a long in a very short time way without a lot of experience behind him even though his stats this year haven't reflected that upward trajectory/progress.

Doesn't matter if you're bigger if you don't use it to your advantage. I hope he does progress but he got a ways to go from what I saw last year. He just doesn't use his size/body to his advantage like he should and I don't know why bc that's definitely his best attribute. I've not given up on him though, he's still young and could be a good player if he puts it all together. I'd love to see him play like Da'rick did, even with all of his faults off of the field, that guy plays fearless and wasn't afraid to use his body and take a hit, he was fun to watch.

Croom needs to improve, but on balance, I think he had an underrated year last year. There were multiple times he was the victim of a bad throw by the QB. He converted some important third downs. And Neal owes some of his biggest runs to Croom's excellent downfield blocking. There's a lot in Croom's game to like and he will be a big part of the game plan going forward I think.

+1 Good job Prof. I believe Croom is going to be an excellent receiver and player.
