Josh dobbs

His passing numbers will never be pretty but he's great at the option and managing the game. He's a good athlete and a good kid and his starting record should really be 10-1 if not be inept decisions that costed him and his teammates which is what upsets me the most.

Things on this board would be a lot different today if Josh didn't fumble the ball which let Florida back into the game or miss a wide open receiver on the left sideline that would have been a touchdown. People keep griping about not going downfield but Josh hasn't shown he can complete one when he's been give the opportunity.
The passer is seating the bench. Dobbs would make a great reciever imo

Dobbs is doing well enough for us to have won OK and FL games. Play calling is limiting what he can do for us. He is not the most accurate QB we've ever had but he is good enough to throw down field if they allow him to. I wonder if they teach him to read defenses or just run plays ? It has been reported that he has no check options at the line or scrimmage. His worst problem is fumbling.

Love the kid. But if he was a clutch passer, we wouldn't be 2-2 and be talking about Butch's job being on the line. They are play calling around his weakness. Are they making dumb decisions on top of that? Yup. real dumb. You can't blame Dobbs for them not going for two of clock mismanagement. But if your QB makes you one dimensional, you can bet that teams are going to stack the box.

What if your O line is barely serviceable?
Then you have a long season ahead of you.

What about if you have two 5 star running backs?
They are going to take so many reps that one is almost guaranteed to get hurt.

Well what if you have 5 star receivers?
They probably transfer.

What if you ave a really good D?
Then they spend too much time on the field and are gassed by the 4th quarter from all of our teams short possessions that are accelerated by the hurry up offence. Then you lose games in the 4th quarter or fall away in games that you were still in at halftime.

How do you down a guy that just led his team in passing, receiving, and rushing? And that behind one of the weakest offensive lines in the country. He has about two seconds to unload the ball on a pass play. Also is playing for the worst OC in the country. Debord will be gone before the end of the season. Mark it down.

He threw for 83 yards. The coaches don't trust him to throw the ball. You can't win in the sec without a decent passing game.

I am hesitant to post this because I can and may be accused of being negative about Dobbs, but I am not, he is the most exciting QB we have had at UT since Casey Clausen. I love him as a person and a player. He puts it all out there every game. What a warrior he is.

But it's pretty obvious to every D coordinator in the SEC and the FBS that we have no passing threat downfield. When you run for 250 yards against Florida and lose that is the definition of no passing game.

We have to either figure out a way to pass downfield or make a change that will allow us to pass downfield.

The fact that we should be 4-0 and the coaches have cost us two games doesn't change the fact that we have no threat to pass downfield. This has to change.

i don't think it's Dobbs who is killing our passing game. I think it's Azzani! Another poster in another thread showed where schools he left, their passing game inproved dramatically overnight. Check his history. He is the culprit, not Dobbs. Notice how our wr's talent falls off after being here? North was a great freshman.....as was a few other guys early on like Pig, Croom, Von......then they got Azzani'd! lol

No coach makes Dobbs overthrow deep balls. He is a great guy and proud to have him, but he is the man with the ball and he is not getting it done in the passing game. If he was accurate on his passes he would be an All-American but right now he is just a running back.

Lol. As long as Butch is here, DeBord is. So, get used to us wasting the talent we have on offense because by the sounds of it, he's done this everywhere he's been.

If I was Dobbs, in the fourth qtr, when they called the play from the sideline I would then say "Ok here is what we are really gonna do"! I seriously doubt he would be benched for that!

.[/But what if they called a pass play & he checked out of it. Dobbs is a warrior but his passing has not improved and he doesn't seem very confident on passing this year.

The OL is nowhere near as bad as last year. There have been many times where Dobbs has had plenty of time to throw. Yes the OC is terrible and thats one of the major problems. However Dobbs has struggled. Also, its not a good stat when your QB is your leading, passer, rusher and reciever. Its actually indicative of a very sad offense.

Everybody keeps harping on the offense. I think we had enough offense to win. Our defense in not adequate in pressure situations. Bad play calling. We have so many monster DE's, yet we seldom blitz. Our DB's look inept. Our linebackers are like they were in Dooley's day (bad angles, slow). etc.

He's not been given a chance this year to show whether or not he can "get it done in the passing game". He completed 63% of his passes last year and we were told that DeBord had significantly improved Dobbs' footwork/ mechanics /accuracy. So what the hell has happened? He looked fine throwing the ball vs both BGSU and WCU so why have they supposedly lost all confidence in him to throw the ball in "real games". Something else has to be at play here. Wish I knew what it was.

Most of us could complete a pass against WCU

Sadly the defense actually held them to a FG after the turnover.... Until they changed their mind and converted a 4th down.

Yeah.....after Butch gave them a free TO to think it over. He claimed he was afraid of a fake FG. Really? How did that work out for us? :banghead2::banghead2::banghead2:

Dobbs inability to consistently throw an accurate football has severely handi capped Deboards offense. Dormady needs to get a look, because if we can't generate some kind of passing game we will be lucky to win 6 games. There was a reason Justin worley was the starting quarterback to begin last season, and the reason was Dobbs is not very good at throwing the football.

Give me a break, if he's not given the opportunity to throw the ball, he won't be good at it. Let the damn training wheels off and let him air it. That's the problem with our coaching staff

This is pretty much true.
The offense has not improved over last year except for the running game. Hurd bigger and stronger plus adding Kamara accounts to this. Passing game has gotten worse.
Blame Dobbs, DeBoard , OL or Recievers or whatever......this is a coaching problem, being paid millions to fix these problems,
Change the QB or change the OC or change the play calling but staying the same and saying we played good enough or play calling was good enough after you blow a lead and lose is not going to make it better!

And so did he.....15-21, 71.4%, 144 yds, 2tds.

The 63% completion rate I mentioned earlier was from last year. Has Josh been great this year? I guess not, but how would anybody really know otherwise? He's not been given much of a chance at all to throw the ball downfield despite some really good throws he made last year and a ton of talent to throw to.
