Josh Dobbs - NFL Draft thread (merged)

I'm SURE Watson has led his team to a 28-2 record, 2 championship game appearances and national title the last two seasons....having to play and beat the very best teams in the country to do so.

Vince Young did the same things.

How did that work out in the NFL?

Deshaun Watson is not an accurate passer. Just because Mike Williams brings down incredible catches every game doesn't make Watson accurate. The kid throws just as many inaccurate balls as Dobbs. He just bad better receivers that would make amazing plays on the ball.

Dear God.....

I told you not to say it, because it's freaking stupid, and you did it anyway. No one can help you if you won't help yourself.

Vince Young is more comparable to Josh Dobbs than Watson

Nope. Dobbs was never the runner up for the heisman like Watson and Young. Dobbs never won the national title over an unbeaten juggernaut like Watson and Young. Dobbs is also not gonna be drafted top 5 in the draft like Watson and Young.

Deshaun Watson's career track so far is identical to Vince Young.

No he didn't. Young had one good year as a junior, which didn't sniff what Deshaun did over the course of 3 years. Only thing they did similarly was dominate a national title game...actually, check that, Deshaun dominated 2 of them.

Vince was an petulant, immature prima donna, one trick pony who couldn't adjust to an NFL that adjusted to him and shut him down. Watson comes across as a poised, in control, mature young qb who knows how to lead and win. The anti-Vince Young.

Not sure why you hate Watson, other than you think someone pointing out how good he is somehow takes away from Josh, which is silly. Josh had a very good career at Tennessee. Deshaun simply had a better one and accomplished much more.

Lol. Not even close.

College stars like Watson always flame out in the NFL.

Cam Newton is the only outlier and even his career has been up and down.

Lol, there are definitely instances of college stars flaming out in the NFL, but to say always is ridiculous. 3-time pro bowler and Heisman trophy winner Carson Palmer says hello for one just off the top of my head. The fact of the matter is a lot of players flame out, and just because they were a college star does not ensure them flaming out

His argument is so absurd at times it's like he's arguing being a very good college player is a negative.

Talking about skillset and you know, actual comparable traits in their respective game.

Watson is miles better as a passer than Young ever was.

So, what you're saying is, the only reason Watson was considered an accurate passer at Clemson is because Mike Williams caught all those inaccurate balls that Watson just threw up for grabs?

In 2015, Watson threw for 4100 yards and 35 touchdowns while completing 67.8% of his passes......Williams caught 2 passes for 20 yards that year.....please square up those two facts for us, would you? How does this prove/support your assertion? Those were 2 hellacious catches for 20 yards by Williams that saved Watson's career.

More so this draft than any other that I can remember

on the qb's, yeah. it's a crap shoot. if these teams are smart, they all stick to their guns, and pass on the qbs until it makes more sense to do so.

in reality, there should only be 2 taken, cle @ 12 and HOU @ 25. everybody else that "needs" one, can get one of these guys later, if they keep their heads and don't do something stupid.

Because none of them jumps out to you as being capable of being a franchise guy.............and everyone is desperately looking for one of those who are.

My thoughts exactly. Why reach for a QB with question marks with a high pick, when you can take a QB with similar question marks in the second or even third round.

He had other great playmakers. Mike Williams was just one of many. Did you already forget that incredible catch Jordan Leggett made on that inaccurate throw in the final seconds of the national title game before the game winning pass?

Deshaun Watson was basically the opposite of Dobbs. He had his receivers bail him out constantly with his inaccurate throws. While Dobbs had perfectly thrown accurate passes dropped by his receivers constantly.

The NFL (as usual) will even this out. Expect Deshaun Watson to be a Vince Young type bust. He'll have one or two good seasons before flaming out. While Josh Dobbs will have a career like Randall Cunningham. He'll start off slow playing behind Philip Rivers. But in 2-3 years he will be among the best QBs in the NFL and will carry the LA Chargers on his back as a franchise for many years.
