Josh Dobbs - NFL Draft thread (merged)

I think I'm right, but I recognize it as an opinion, unlike D4H who is a (barely) functioning Neaderthal.

definitive statements like "he is" or "going to" or "will happen" don't make it sound like an opinion.

especially when there's zero elaboration or context to support the statement.

Steelers would be ideal. Big Ben is playing on a year to year basis, and the franchise is stable, has lots of support and history, and has a solid coach in Tomlinson.

Yup. That would be the dream landing spot for Josh. Talented team, stable franchise, great head coach, and an aging QB that is injury prone. Josh could come in with no pressure to play early and if Big Ben was to go down he could be put into a situation like Dak where he could have a lot of early success because of the talent around him.

Nobody deserves success more than Dobbs. A great player and great ambassador for UT.

I have to say that I never saw him above the third round, but give him credit for taking advantage of all opportunities to impress the NFL brass after the season ended.

Not really. I always expected this for Josh. If anything its come a lot later than I thought. But from the moment I saw him play as a sophomore against Alabama I said this guy is gonna be SPECIAL.

You expected a lot from many. You have successfully said enough dumb **** to luck out and be remotely correct for once.....even though you have changed that narrative 40 times over the course of a year.

I'm hoping for the best for Dobbs, but a part of me really doesn't want to see him go in the 1st Round. Seen too many QBs move up that high, then there's huge pressure to "throw them into the water" too soon, before they're ready. See Heath Shuler.

I'd much rather Dobbs get into a good situation regardless of what round he's drafted in. At least if it's the Steelers, though, there won't be pressure for him to start immediately with Roethlisberger there, so that's one of the few 1st round situations that might be good for him. Definitely don't want to see him go to a bad team, where he's going to have a terrible O-line, mediocre coaching, and likely throw a bunch of INTs, and get banged up.

Dobbs may one day help us build a spaceship so we can walk on Mars. I doubt where he goes in the draft is to much "pressure" for the young man.

I believe the team most likely to take Dobbs in the 1st round would be the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 30th overall pick. Remember Mike Tomlin was the only head coach at Josh's pro day and they apparently hit it off. And they are desperate for a QB given Roethlisberger's age and injury history.

As I reported earlier this week, the Los Angeles Chargers with the 38th overall pick overall in the 2nd round are prepared to take Dobbs. I guess the other teams in love with Dobbs have also heard this and are going to try and position themselves ahead of the Chargers if they want to get him. This might force Pittsburgh to just pull the trigger in the late 1st round if a bunch of teams are waiting in the early 2nd round for Josh.

He does not have the arm for bad weather and wind...

My Browns could really use a winner like Dobbs, BUT I'm not so sure Dobbs really needs them! But I'm sure he would be happy to spend their first round money!!! I cant wait to see what happens with this fine young mans life!!!!!

The Browns need to disband.. it's been a grease fire for 40 years

my hopes is that the Browns take Garrett and Barnett with their first two picks and Dobbs with their third pick and maybe even trade down that first pick and get some extra picks and bring in a slew of young talent and set Astro Dobbs up to be the first super bowl champion qb in Browns history!!! talking about going down in history as a great, he could be talked about as one of the greatest ever!!! lol

I wish Dobbs well, but he is not an NFL caliber QB, regardless of his draft position. The league is desperate for QB talent, Dobbs is a 6th round talent that will go much higher due to the Dak Phenomenon.

Those unbelievable 6 win seasons...

don't you remember the afc championship games that Denver and that doggone John Elway crushed their hopes of making the super bowl. :cray: When Marty Shottenheimer was their coach they were good. :good!:

that's what they said about Tom Brady too.:) Him being a late round talent that's is.

Patriots would be ideal. He could play football and be close enough to Pratt & Whitney to commute part time.. Be nice to have a $200,000 a year part time job eh?

There's a reason he's going early 2nd round at worst. The guy is talented. Butch Jones simply wasted his potential because he's a terrible coach.

I completely disagree. Below is his final stats. Unless you expected him to do better than Peyton, he did just fine with Butch Jones as his coach. The only thing you could gripe about is that he did not play a full year his first two years but both those years started out as attempts to let him red shirt to focus and get ahead on the academic part of his college life.

And look he missed Peyton's record in 2016 by 8 yards.

  • Finished Tennessee career with a 23-12 record (including 3-0 in bowls) as starting quarterback, tying Condredge Holloway (1972-74) for the fifth-most wins by starting quarterback.
  • Set UT records for career rushing yards by a quarterback (2,160), career rushing touchdowns by a QB (32), single-season rushing yards by a QB (831 in 2016) and single-season rushing touchdowns by a QB (12 in 2016). His 2,160 rushing yards also rank 14th among all players in program history.
  • His 7,138 career passing yards rank fifth in Tennessee history and his 9,360 yards of total offense (7,138 passing, 2,160 rushing, 62 receiving) rank third in program history behind only Peyton Manning (11,020) and Casey Clausen (9,577)
  • His 3,781 yards of total offense (2,946 passing, 831 rushing, 4 receiving) in 2016 ranks second in Tennessee history only to Peyton Manning's 3,789 in 1997
  • Joined Mississippi State's Dak Prescott and Florida's Tim Tebow as the only SEC quarterbacks to record 15 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns in multiple seasons
  • Is one of only four quarterbacks in SEC history to have 50 career passing touchdowns and 25 career rushing touchdowns. The others are Florida's Tim Tebow, Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel and Mississppi State's Dak Prescott.

How do you get that "Butch Jones simply wasted his potential...?" Dobbs had one of the all-time best passing seasons for a Tennessee QB last season. The offense put up big numbers.

I don't get it. But, then again, I rarely get anything you post.

As I look at those stats - Josh Dobbs has quietly made a place for himself in the UT record books.

To say his talent has been wasted is just untrue and laughable.

The reality is that if it wasn't for Daks success , Dobbs stock wouldn't be rising. They have similar skill sets so they are indeed comparable.

But smart GMs know that Dak was surrounded by a talented offensive unit..

Oh and by the way... if chargers take a QB in 2nd , it's 100 percent Patrick Mahomes.
