Josh Dobbs (merged)

I already know how this story ends. The journey is what is interesting.

Dobbs will be a superstar in the NFL. I have zero doubt in my mind. The Steelers reaching for an awful QB in round 3 changes nothing.

Go and look at my predraft rankings. I had Mason Rudolph rated at the bottom for a reason. He's no threat to do anything in this league.

Lamar Jackson would have been a problem. Same with Kyle Lauletta. Those guys are future starters in the NFL. Mason Rudolph isn't.

Dobbs will beat him out in his sleep.

And, another screenshot. Thanks for the material.

I'm over at the NFL forum now. You should head over there. I've made my views pretty clear on this.

All the Steelers did was waste a draft pick. Mason Rudolph is a surefire backup at best. He's no threat to ever start in the NFL. While Dobbs is a Hall of Fame talent.

All this proves is NFL teams don't know what they are doing.

There is absolutely no one that knows me on this board, so I say this while I hide my head in a pillow, I can not find one thing to say about this post, it invites so much on its own. Nice to see you back.

D4H— if Dobbs played at Arizona do you still think he’d be s superstar in NFL? Or you saying that cause he went to TN?

I agree. The Steelers know nothing about football. They are just a bunch of car salesmen.

We will see how it turns out.

The NFL is about a QB that can read a defense and thread a needle with a football. Any team counting on their QB running the ball to win, shouldn't be suprised when they lose.

I've only seen Dobbs take a clean hit twice. Both at UT. They didn't seem to phase him at all.

Crossing routes seemed to be his opportunity.

I expect the competition will make him better.

We’ll know Dobbs’ future by August. The Steelers won’t keep 4 qbs. They obviously keep Big Ben and Rudolph. Last year, Dobbs couldn’t beat out Jones for the backup role. If he doesn’t overtake Jones this summer, Dobbs will no longer be a Steeler.

The Steelers have been discussing all offseason about hopes of drafting Ben’s replacement. D4H’s refusal to acknowledge it just further proves he’s a troll, an idiot, or both.

I have no doubt Dobbs could have been an NFL quality QB...

Had he been coached properly in college. He had all the building blocks necessary to be a stud, but let's face it, when you don't have a QB coach (not a GA either) for how many years of his collegiate career you're going to fail to prep them. Dobbs' failure in the NFL is because of the system that failed to prep him.

Rudolph has the necessary check marks to be a successful NFL QB. He's still got some issues to deal with, but overall, he could become a darn good one in time.

There’s too much assumption in there to really know either way. I personally think at the end of the day too many people assume because a kid understands math and science better than 99.8% of the world, he magically understands the quarterback position better. Just like a healthy Stephen Hawking wouldn’t lead a team to a Super Bowl, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady aren’t guiding any missions to Mars. Dobbs is a great kid. He’s not an NFL starter though, and that’s ok. You’re a great dude GV and you’re not an NFL starter either

I actually was referring to his athleticism. Had he been developed by a good full time QB coach, things certainly could have turned out way different.

He had the raw material to be one of the best as well as a corps of good receivers. Development was just never there except after DeBord came onto the staff. Even then, there were mechanical issues that never got solved.

I've never claimed Dobbs would be first day starter in the NFL because of his intelligence. His athletic ability could have/should have gotten him far further than it has.

Athletic traits have a horrible representative sample of determining ability to be an NFL qb. So many sure fire athletic qbs have flamed out, while pocket passers continue to thrive

Depends on the "fit" of the QB in question and how the offense is geared. Cam Newton thrives in Carolina's offense because they adapted it to his style. But he certainly wasn't a pocket passer starting out.

But I meant athletic ability as the building blocks (arms and legs) were there to be developed. I'm not focusing on Dobbs' "Oh ****, oh ****, oh ****, the OL crashed AGAIN!" scrambles where he managed to pick up 20 yards (which he was damn good at), but just the basic "needs" for a NFL QB.

I'd tend to think if he had four years with DeBord, we could be having a different conversation entirely.

Regardless though, Dobbs will end up being fine with or without the NFL.

Don't think anyone would disagree, the only rub comes with the claim that he is a future HoFer who reminds experts of Randall Cunningham. Dobbs gonna do great things in this world, but a starting NFL QB was never and will never be a possibility.

No doubt about this. Josh Dobbs may be the finest human and student athlete that’s ever walked the campus in Knoxville. I wish him well and hope that he finds another home soon, can somehow stick on an nfl roster for 10-12 years, maybe even get a cup of coffee on a 53-man roster, maybe even take a handful of nfl snaps on Sundays. I’d love it if the Titans took a flyer on him and picked him up at some point to back up Mariota if, more likely when, the Steelers cut him loose.

Just wanted to say that because I hate that in our haste to refute and fire back at the ridiculousness that is D4H, that such a fine young man like Joshua Dobbs winds up being the unfortunate pawn in all these “discussions” ....he deserves better than D4H setting up as a virtual piñata on VN.

I don’t know why so many keep responding to his antics
