The reason we won last night is because the coaches finally just let Dobbs play.

He's erratic sometimes in the "throw game" but the coaches finally hung with him, and he found a rhythm in the second half and especially in the 4th quarter.

I'm not sure if I've seen two guys who play with more guts and heart than Josh and Jalen. They are quickly becoming two of my all-time favorite Vols.

Dobbs has the je ne sais quoi for QB; he just has "IT". Dormady will have great seasons at UT, but this is Josh's team. When we let Josh go Dobbs on the opposition, we're virtually unstoppable.

Coaches just have to accept that Josh's game is his game. Trust him and Let Him Ball.

I agree with you but I would argue he had far better pass blocking last night with Hall and Jones on the right side.

Dobbs is a warrior and competitor. He can be inconsistent passing some but he can make some pretty throws with time in the pocket.

Gurantano will take over for Dobbs though.

This! Hope too see a lot more of those two young men this season. Also hats off to Hurd in the blocking game. Watched that segment with Ainge on the butch Jones Show. Him identifying the linebacker not coming then long across the pocket to pick up a blitzing corner was nice.

Coaches like to coach, game plan, run set plays, manage the game. Some players are better when its more like a backyard game. Dobbs is one, Brett Favre, Tony Robinson also come to mind. Call a play and if it blows up sit back and watch the magic. It's hard for coaches to do.

He can run. He can make a busted play productive in that respect.

But he is inaccurate with his throws and even an average defense can contain him because he stares down his target 90 % of the time.

Great competitor, great athlete, great kid.....below average thrower. That being said, when he's allowed to get into the flow of the game, when they let him throw passes that he throws well...to the middle of the field.... and when they call some designed runs for him, he can make plays and dominate a football game. When they don't tailor the schemes and gameplans to fit his skillset, we'll lose more than we win with him at QB. Hopefully, they now know what kind of game they need to call for him. Why it's taken this long I don't know, given that he's shown them the blueprint via last year's SCar, Ky and Iowa games. If they duplicate yesterday's gameplan (with necessary tweaks of course) for Bama, we'll have a chance....if they don't, we don't.

Edit: the "first down, touchdown or get down" mantra that DeBord coined for Dobbs when he first got here sounded cool, but as it turns out, it was crap as it relates to Dobbs....just gotta let him play.

I completely agree. Coaches gave Dobbs a lot more freedom to take off this week, IMO. I honestly think Dobbs' confidence builds off of the plays he makes with his legs. The better he does at running, the more accurate his passing gets.

If IT is the ability to win games without having to throw in tight windows or against stacked boxes with tackling ability, than I agree.

He has IT.

And it brings down the safeties and makes them look run first which in makes passing easier.

Dobbs is just a gamer. He plays his best when things are getting hectic around him. I say give him the pass run option plays like we were doing all second half and let's ride this out. The kid can play and the talk of him needing to be benched needs to be put to rest.
He single handedly won the game for us. He would not be denied.
Now, is he going to miss the strike zone some? Of course, he is who he is and that is a playmaker.

I think the coaches might have been worried about him running too much and getting hurt, and you have to think about that. If he goes down, there goes half our our rushing offense.

Dobbs has this odd ability where defenders just kinda fall off him. Like that first long run he had, he probably ran through 5 -6 tackles.
