"4 straight weeks on CBS".....Butch has turned into the Tommy Boy of college football salesmanship

Let hope so, Tommy Boy saved the day.

CBJ is sticking to his plan. 2017 will show(I hope.) if he can or can't get it done.

Im beginning to feel sorry for him

Hes really trying his best but his best isnt likely to be good enough

I know I give him a hard time, but it feels like Im kicking a puppy sometimes

I wish him the best, really I do, but I dont think he has a prayer having any greater success than we have already witnessed

Who do you want as a coach? Name a realistic coaching option that you think could come in here and win the SEC.

That's a valid question, but it's about, Can he or can't he get us where we want?

2017 should answer that for all of us.

CBJ feels good about this class and 121. He hasn't backed down from expectations.

All that is left for the regular fans is to wait and see. Either cheer the team or bash the HC and his staff or both.

Release the Beast!

CountVolcula (clever name :matrix:) I usually love your posts, find myself agreeing with most of the stuff, and respect your opinions, but I must respectfully disagree with you on this one.

I believe Coach Jones knows a lot more than many give him credit for and knows how to apply it. What many fail to remember is that we were severely and I mean severely hurt by the injuries last year. I'm not convinced there weren't some unreported injuries before and even during the South Carolina and Vanderbilt games.

Texas A&M there was no excuse for all those fumbles. I did notice improvement on ball security fundamentals and techniques after that game.

DeBord opened up the playbook more near the end of the season which I believe should have been done much earlier during the meat of the schedule strength instead of waiting until the weaker teams because it proved to be too little, too late.

I don't blame them because they did what they thought best and learned through the painful experiences the hard way.

One thing I noticed about Coach Jones though, is he is willing to make adjustments to course correct.

After I raised a ruckus about ball security and how important it was to drill those fundamentals, I did notice improvements near immediately starting with the very next game.

He addressed penalties, but I'm not convinced there has been enough stress placed on the importance of eliminating them yet.

I believe Coach Jones is working as hard as he can and takes it seriously enough.

I appreciate him for that.

I appreciate the hires he made and hard work he did with the strategic recruiting at key positions with the most need of depth.

Let's rally behind our coach, our staff and our players.

It takes more than just the revenues from ticket sales, donations and merch purchases.

Let's provide the encouragement and let these coaches and players know without a shadow of doubt or wavering that we are grateful for them and know they can achieve something mighty this season when they work together as one team Tennessee.

They'll get it done.

Get real man. The overwhelming majority of this fanbase would have been ecstatic with 9-3 and a Sugar Bowl bid or 10-2 and a trip to Atlanta. Stop acting like there are no legit criticism just because you want to stick your head in the sand and avoid reality.

Well said! I agree.

please someone issue a gag order on CBJ.

I feel ya. I really like Butch. But it seems like he makes it harder on himself sometimes when he sounds like a machine recording saying the same ol catch phrases & slogans week in and week out! I think the media and fans, would ease way up on him if he just sounded a bit more sincere from time to time.

Hopefully this season will be the season for Butch to start fast again, and finally finish it strong! Go Vols!!

Just like i been telling you fan's Butch said it best we are a 8 or 9 win football program, the day's of competing for the SEC every year are over we might compete for the East 2 out of 5 year's with Bama sighing maybe the best class every 21 top 300 ESPN PLAYER'S THE DAWGS 18 LSU 15 and there fans are saying they had a bad year if somehow we could have got 7 out of 10 top TENNESSEE recruits we would had a top 10 class the state of Tennessee is putting more talent than every and we are being raided by seveal SEC SCHOOL nothing changing with this because the next staff will be a 8 or 9 win staff at best unless we get another DD it's all about the money and TENNESSEE will not pay top dollar for coaches so get your pop corn ready 7 and 5 or 8 and 4 is what you will be getting the COACH PHIL curse lives on so if we every get another HALL OF FAME COACH might not should run him of one way i guess we the fan's deserve this because of all the jokes about the HALL OF FAME COACH we once had. Now if we hire the HALL OF FAME COACH as the AD he might lift the curse if not LIBERTY BOWL, MUSIC CITY BOWL BELK BOWL here we come. Some i will piss of but like BIG ORANGE 5 say's the truth is the truth and the truth hurts a lot sometimes like coach said we are back we went 9 and 4 and got a MUSIC CITY BOWL TROPHY.:eek:lol: oh I FORGET TO SAY WE GOT THE 3.30 EASTERN TIME GAME 4 SATURDAY'S IN A ROW bAMA GOT 7 5 STAR'S IN THIS CLASS:eek:lol:

There's the Tpedigo we all love.

Agree. Jones is the coach now, will be in 17, will be in 18 and probably after that. If you hate him so much, go find another team.

You guys truly are incapable of having a grown up, objective conversation about this aren't you? I mean instead of supporting Jones by presenting facts and giving the other side a chance to counter you guys immediately resort to name calling or my personal favorite go pull for another team because you want to many good things for this team. I would really love to know the political breakdown of "sunshine pumper" vs "negavol", I think I know.

This guy just keeps digging his hole deeper.

With dum dums he is. With me he is stating the truth. He has brought us back to where we can expect to be ranked every year, compete for the east every year. Do you guys not remember the end of fulmer, the year with dimbass, and the Dooley train wreck. He has brought us back.

All I've witnessed in my lifetime of followimg the Vols is 2 appearances in Atlanta and 5 losing seasons in 15 seasons. I'm grateful to be winning 9 games again.

Well good for you. Its sad when you fail to recoginize that UT has 10-2, 11-1 talent but your okay with beatdowns from USC / Vandy with losing records. At least you are honest about where you stand.

FWIW they just spent the first half hour of the morning show on 104.5 the Zone in Nashville on 5* heart comment. The fair criticism is that you cannot bask in the glory star ratings when you have a top 10 class and then use cliches like this when you come up short of expectations. They said Butch has been dubbed a "3-star General" on social media as a result of the comment. One caller compared Butch to leftover meatloaf, saying he doesn't want to eat it but he's between paychecks and it's the only thing in the frig. They're soliciting 5* heart comments from all callers today and I'm sure this will be revisited during Hyams usual spot at about 7am CST.

CBJ states positive "FACTS", and some automatically turn it into "SO WHATS'". Just because you're still unwilling to move past the losses to Vandy and SC. It was NSD. The class was a success according to Bob Welton also. We were on CBS 4 weeks in a row. Fact! There was a time that the UT/UF game didn't get aired because we performed so bad. We had 4-5 games on Pay Per View a year. Games on SEC network and not prime time. Getting drug my Bama, Arky like 45-3. Praying that we didn't lose 8 games so we could still say we are the only other team besides OSU that has never lost 8 in a season. CBJ has got us over the hump and he's trying to build some positive traction, but you guys burn him at the stake because you don't like what comes out of his mouth. He's been a HC for 9 years. He's still learning. Which of you nega's were experts and knew it all at 9 years into your careers?

We haven't had more than 2 PPV games in a season in years and I don't believe we've had any since the SECN first aired. Butch has maxed out. Next man up.

Thay's my point Hillbilly. It's been years. It's no longer talk of not airing the UT/UF game on CBS. No more 5-7 seasons. But, hey continue your Fahr Butch agenda that you spew from back up in the "holler".

That was the 2012 game and it was on ESPN prime time. And the reason there aren't PPV games anymore is because of the SECN which came along in 2014.

And you're claiming this was a successful recruiting year? Funny I didn't realize finishing 3rd in the East in recruiting equaled success.

Crap in one hand and wish in another, which one fills up first?

A lot of coaches are football smart, but it never seems to translate to thr field

One reason, they try and micromanage too much. They hire assistants that wont buck the system or they feel comfortable around. Sound familiar?

They also dont like to take too many risks. Coach not to lose instead of coaching to win. Sound familiar?

Butch means well, he just isnt cut out for the SEC.

It's sad that you criticize other fans who are mature enough to recognize the reality that Team 120 had an unusually high number of injuries to key contributors. And that, without those injuries, we almost certainly would have won the 10 or 11 games most of us predicted.

Coaches and players never want to use injuries as an excuse and ours didn't. Even when the injuries were happening at an almost comical pace, they repeated the "next man up" mantra and kept fighting. That's what we expect from them.

But as fans, we are free to either stamp our feet and pout about it or accept reality. A lot of those who are complaining now are the same ones who couched their expectations prior to the season by saying, "Barring injuries..." or "If we can stay healthy..." Now they want to pretend the injuries never happened and cry because they're disappointed in the outcome. Well, guess what? We were all disappointed. But no amount of whining is going to change it. It's time for us to move on and support our team.

I console myself with the knowledge that not everyone here is necessarily an adult. I can only hope that explains most of it.

Sorry if I offended anyone. Injuries is not the reason we lost to Vandy. If you have convinced yourself that is the reason then ok. I would then ask you this. Does it not concern you that in 4 years our coach has not developed enough talent to beat a 5-6 Vandy team?
I would also had, we cant beat a 5-6 Vandy team but we can take the same players and beat a 9 win Nebraska team. interesting.
Its disheartening to me that we have fans that think 9 wins is okay after how the season played out. If that is your opinion then great.
