Asinine. This says it all:
“Whomever said such a thing must clearly believe that Jones’ 9-4 record and top 25 finish in his third year on the job should be compared to what Pruitt did in the season-opener of his second year on the job.”
My guess is that it was Mullen.
That said, we may just never know. So much is different now than it was when Butch was here. For one, Pruitt now has Mullen and Smart rolling to coach against in the East. Stoops is recruiting and coaching better than ever before. I’m not sure what to expect from Drinkwitz.
Then you ad Lane Kiffin, Sam Pittman, Fisher and Orgeron to Saban, Malzhan in the West... it’s insane to think the landscape is the same as it was when Butch was coaching.
I will just go with like-for-like for 1,000 Alex. Stoops, Muschamp, Mason all beat Jones’ team in his most recent year coaching. None of them could beat Pruitt in his most recent year coaching. Malzhan beat Jones his first year coaching and he lost to Pruitt his first year coaching.
Last year was insane. We could have won 10, maybe 11 games just as easy as we could have won 3.
We were in the game for 11 until JG’s fumble in Bama. That was not the case for Butch in his second year. We competed in 8 of those games.
