Jones among realistic candidates for Ole Miss job

Let's say for arguments sake that Butch wins 7 or 8 games this season and the recruiting class is ranked somewhere around 12-15 in late November. If Ole Miss offers Butch $5 million a year with 4 or 5 years guaranteed he'd be a fool not to take it and UTK would be fools to match it.

LoL Butch had much better options then a program about to get the death penalty. Have fun with that. Butch going no where until he accomplishes his goal whamibamidalami lovers. Sorry to disappoint.

Why the F would any coach leave a top tier SEC job for a demotion? Historically there are 3 teams on each side Bama, Auburn, Lsu and then everyone else in the west Florida Georgia and UT in the east and everyone else. there is no way possible an employed coach at one of those schools takes a Job at one of the other SEC schools. This statement is only slightly more ridiculous than Les Miles at Ole miss.

Lets be honest Ole miss has changed a lot over the last decade or so and are shaking a bit from time to time but they are far from ever being real deal competitors in the SEC.

I personally read into CBJ's change in representation as confidence in the outcome of this season. He honestly seems really excited about the product he is about to bring to the table which makes me say hmmm.. I honestly don't expect much more than 8 wins from this team but realize they could be world shockers. To clarify I think realistic expectations on this team given what we on the outside can see is 8 regular season wins. One less is understandable but they could add 2-3 wins to that total and not shock me. It is all dependent on 3 things. QB, RB and DLine. Every other unit on the team should show, at worst, incremental improvement from last year. Those 3 teams have lost high level performers with no clear answer on if we have replacements.

Ok, and your point?
I seriously doubt OM is going to wait until then to fill it's job

Thats gonna be a hard spot to fill from any decent FBS coach. Plus CBJ should have a decent year (8-5, maybe 7-5) but would set up nicely for a solid 2018 season, so i dont see him leaving.

If i were ol miss, id get Troy Calhoun from Air Force.

Correct! OM isn't going to pull any mid-upper level D1 coach who's job is relatively stable...unless they want to get a pay day for 2-3 years, and be known as "the guy" after Freeze, who was the guy before the one who came in after the dark clouds cleared.

Unfortunately, I am a displaced TN guy living in NJ, and followed Greg Schiano when he was at Rutgers. Turned out he wasn't NFL head coach material, he was a good college coach, where rah, rah college stuff didn't translate in NFL. Defensive Coord and Assoc. Head Coach at Michigan now...someone's going to grab him soon.

Sexton will have Butch's name in every job opening this yr from 6a high school football.

Glad to hear CPF speak up on Butch's behalf. It makes no sense to consider changing coaches at this time.

I'm going to put this out there: I'd love it. There's no secret in that. But my following opinion is not a Butch-hate piece...

But I think Butch would consider it. It's a rebuild with low expectations. That seems to be his wheelhouse. If the money is there, don't be surprised if he listens.

I don't have the highest of opinion of Butch, this is true. If he is at all interested in escaping expectations, this is his chance. Ole Miss would be foolish to not consider stealing a quality, albeit flawed, head coach. They've done worse. Much worse, as have we.

Will it happen? I doubt it. But convincing yourself it's out of the question would be a foolish mistake. Money and opportunity can make anything happen...

I don't agree with the part in bold. I think Ole Miss fans genuinely believe that they can play with the big boys now and the next man in won't be cut any slack for Freeze's NCAA sanctions. This is the absolute worst type of job to take if a coach is interested in job security.

I'm trying to figure out as well coached and performing as Appy State is year in and year out, why their HC is not on somebody's short list? Is that staff just hooked up with the wrong agent?

1) The Butch Jones haters need to get a life
2) The Butch Jones haters forgot the mess he inherited from the great job Lame and Drooley did
3) The Butch Jones haters probably have never seen a team drop like flies with injuries
4) The Butch Jones haters jump off the cliff at the first depressing moment
5) The Butch Jones haters lose hope and give up because of the first huge expectations that were not achieved

First Dools now Butch. Lol this is comical. Remember when sports writers used to put effort into their work, instead of just using cheap gimmicks to trick their audience into reading their senseless bullcrap? Must be nice getting paid to spread rumors & falsities.

Hes too old and too smart to take the job but ole miss needs someone of the caliber of an Archie Manning. Someone all of rebel nation trusts and respects and would be patient enough with to get their program back on track. They are going to be a dumpster fire for at least a decade. let's get them on the schedule. lol
