Ok, and your point?Let's say for arguments sake that Butch wins 7 or 8 games this season and the recruiting class is ranked somewhere around 12-15 in late November. If Ole Miss offers Butch $5 million a year with 4 or 5 years guaranteed he'd be a fool not to take it and UTK would be fools to match it.
Thats gonna be a hard spot to fill from any decent FBS coach. Plus CBJ should have a decent year (8-5, maybe 7-5) but would set up nicely for a solid 2018 season, so i dont see him leaving.
If i were ol miss, id get Troy Calhoun from Air Force.
I'm going to put this out there: I'd love it. There's no secret in that. But my following opinion is not a Butch-hate piece...
But I think Butch would consider it. It's a rebuild with low expectations. That seems to be his wheelhouse. If the money is there, don't be surprised if he listens.
I don't have the highest of opinion of Butch, this is true. If he is at all interested in escaping expectations, this is his chance. Ole Miss would be foolish to not consider stealing a quality, albeit flawed, head coach. They've done worse. Much worse, as have we.
Will it happen? I doubt it. But convincing yourself it's out of the question would be a foolish mistake. Money and opportunity can make anything happen...
Dooley found a job, so anything is possible.
Correct! OM isn't going to pull any mid-upper level D1 coach who's job is relatively stable...unless they want to get a pay day for 2-3 years, and be known as "the guy" after Freeze, who was the guy before the one who came in after the dark clouds cleared.
Unfortunately, I am a displaced TN guy living in NJ, and followed Greg Schiano when he was at Rutgers. Turned out he wasn't NFL head coach material, he was a good college coach, where rah, rah college stuff didn't translate in NFL. Defensive Coord and Assoc. Head Coach at Michigan now...someone's going to grab him soon.
I don't agree with the part in bold. I think Ole Miss fans genuinely believe that they can play with the big boys now and the next man in won't be cut any slack for Freeze's NCAA sanctions. This is the absolute worst type of job to take if a coach is interested in job security.
