I've heard all the excuses over the last year and two games, from coaches, offensive schemes, offensive lineman, looks great on the practice field, confidence or lack there of, fan's booing, etc. etc...bottom line is Jonathan Crompton is just not very good! (nicest way to put it) I wish he was, from my observations the guy bleeds orange, and has handled the criticism and adversity with great character and class. He's endured more than I can even begin to imagine (100,000 plus booing, and cursing his every move, even recieving death threats), and yet he has always said, and done the right things. Publically, he hasn't pointed fingers or ran from the scrutiny. He's always taken the high road, and there's definitely something to be said for that. However, at the end of the day it's very apparent to me and others that Jon Crompton is not even close to being a servicable quarterback in major college football, and it's extremely hard to accept considering how highly-touted he was when he arrived on the hill. I remember the whispers from various media personel on David Cutcliffe's opinion of Crompton, I thought, "no way, no way the recruiting services missed on this guy THAT BAD!!" As it turns out, they did, and that's why it's so hard to accept that a guy who was supposed to be the next great signal caller on Rocky Top never came remotely close to meeting our expectations. All good/great teams have servicable to outstanding quarterback play depending on what that team needs in order to win. No matter the circumstances or who Tennessee puts around him, simplyfying schemes, fan's praising his every move, coaches and their decisions, his own work ethic, and all the other countless resolutions to Jon Crompton's inept play are pointless. At the end of the day, Jonathan Crompton is unable to play quarterback with any success at The University of Tennessee.
