Jonathan Crompton... (merged)

How Can the O line play with Heart When they know the QB is just gonna throw a Pick or into the GROUND!!!!!!!!

Is Crompton the worst starting qb in UT history? I'm talking someone filling in for 1 or 2 games, but a season long starter. I've only been keeping up with the Vols since the mid 70s but I can't think of one who has performed this poorly on such a consistent basis.

I totally agree. It is time to put Nick in and give him some experience for next year. I am so over Crompton. By the way did anyone see Randy Sanders on Tennessee's sideline? Up the middle on 4th and Goal. Give me a break. Everyone knew that coming.:(

Talking with relatives that watched UT since the 50's and 60's say this is the most piss poor UT QB play EVER!!!

Our QB's SUCK PERIOD!!!

Crompton and Stephens are both waterheads of a QB and it won't change while they're at UT!

I'm just hoping for a respectable 7-5 or 6-6 season for Kiffin's first year, if that.

The coaches and players rave about how Crompton is so great in practices. The reason there's such a disparity between his performance in practice and his performance in games is because there's no pressure in practice! He doesn't have 100k people watching him; practices don't immediately affect a W-L record. It's not a big deal if he makes a mistake in practice because he doesn't have a stadium full of people and television viewers across the country scrutinizing his every move.

I thought the entire offense looked a lot better than they did last year, minus one.

Hardesty was awesome. Take the lead, MH... you are the man to do it for the offense!

It was great to not see 3rd and Chavis as well.

The team did about what I thought they would. It would have nice to win, but we really need one athlete to play QB to make that happen.

You can't blame an O-line for not being able to block 8 or 9 men in the box most of the night. I thought they played much better. It's just you can't win being one-dimensional without the steroid program that made Nebraska famous.

WKU - Checking down to receivers, take what was given to him ( I realize this was a weak D)

UCLA - Staring down receivers, holding the ball way too long, and then trying to force it.....

Dont' know what changed, dont' really care. We need someone who doesn't fold under pressure. I would love to see JC succeed, but this situation isn't going to get any better for him.

going back and looking at the starters from about 1955on (prior to that was alot of running and single wing type qbs) there is NO qb in tennessee history who has turned in this pathetic a game over and over every week,....If im gonna have to watch our qb throw pics and lose the game at least put the guy who will be the future of the program in there and do it to get experience,... not some washed up, not even a has-been but a never-was, pathetic excuse for a D-I qb embarass the team and fans out there like that....

He's like a deer in headlights. Any pressure or intensity and he seems to just freeze and plays way too tight.

It just seems like Crompton isn't very smart. I mean he may have a good arm and everything but the decisions he makes sometimes are just baffling. For example, he throws across the field on a 10 yard curl route...a pass that is about 25 yards and takes a really long time to get there. That's just not a good decision.

I just get the feeling that Nick Stephens is a smarter person. Just give him a chance on the field.

Just asking the question, but is it possible Crompton intentionally throws games? Does he have big gambling debts?

I just don't see how someone can be that good in practice. Convince 2 head coaches that he should be the starter. Yet he alone finds ways to lose games that we are heavily favored during the season.

I think Kiffin should have at least tried to shake things up a little and put Stephens in for a series or 2 and see if it would provide a spark. And Crompton does suck...unles it against WKU.:salute:

was it just me or did anyone listen to the call-in show after the game and hear crompton talk about how "WE" need to go and assess how we played and how "WE" need to work on things.....does he have a mouse in his pocket because the whole team don't throw interceptions? I get that the line needs to block better but good god why are you throwing it in the grass for Christ's sake!

OMG. Just got back from the game. Crompton is the worst quarterback I have ever seen. Just horrible. I knew immediately every snap who he was going to throw to, because he looks right at them immediately and stares them down until he throws, even if they are not open (hence the interceptions). Kiffin's refusal to pull him for Stephens leaves me to question his coaching ability. Stephens can't be that bad. That must have been humiliating for Stephens to sit on the bench and watch that train wreck.... :banghead2:

if crompton was ever gonna come around and grow into a decent quarterback, it would have happened by now. it ain't gonna happen. how much longer does kiffen stick with him?

p.s.: as bad as j.c. was today, i gotta admit the offensive line wasn't much better.

if I were Stephens I would be more embarrassed I couldn't beat out that guy for the job. Everyone watching that game had to be wondering how bad the 2nd team guy was since JC was still in there

OK. It was a long ride home, so I had an opportunity to think and reflect. I have been watching football for over 40 years and in all of that time I can unequivocally say that Crompton is the worst QB that I have ever seen ….. at any time and at any level (pee wee, high school, college, pros, etc.). He is a waste of a scholarship. He is a waste of a roster spot. He is a waste of bench/sideline space.

On a personal level, he might be a nice guy. I wish him a long and happy life. But I never want to see him under center. I never want to see him on a football field. I never want to see him in a Tennessee football uniform again.

crompton learning 4 systems i think has nothing to do with the fact he cant hit the broad side of a bard form 15 yards away....

Crompton would be holding the clipboard if we had even a decent QB on campus right now. Unfortunately, we don't. We can only play what we've been dealt this year.

There's not as much pressure in practice so Crompton does much better. Kiffin will come to realize (a few games too late, I'm afraid) that Crompton can't take pressure. If he makes one mistake his self esteem is destroyed and his ability is drastically decreased. He made the worst decisions I've ever seen a UT quarterback make in a game today. Absolutely the worst.

So many players were open and he throws into triple coverage. Last play of the game (for our offense) he throws a ball into the ground not even close to Gerald Jones' feet and he then walks across the field and proceeds to tell GJ that he didn't run the right route. It's ridiculous.

I agree with VolDad. He's by far, the worst QB I have ever seen...

That being said I wouldn't have pulled him in this game and I would start him against Florida. Then bring Stephens in later when, honestly, it might get ugly. Let Stephens go the whole 2nd half of the UF game and then start the Ohio game. jmo, I'm no coach, and I'm probably wrong...

i doubt crompton would be the starting QB on any other team in the SEC right now....looks to me like he'd be the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th string on just about all other teams...

Don't you guys know anything? Gingers can't be quaterbacks, or pirates for that matter. Geeze

I wonder if Jones ran the wrong route when he came deep across the middle deep wide open and Crompton chucked the friggin thing 15 yards over his head for an INT?

After reading many post tonite I cant understand how anyone can seriously bad mouth the Stephens kid.
If CLK does give him a shot and he is average, just average, many folks on here will eat some serious crow.
