So basically what you're trolling...I mean saying...is that you prefer to have a (bottom third of the SEC salaries) Budget coach...with no prior credentials to even commend him to this job in the first place, work the fanbase with his....uh....PROCESS? Yes, that's the word I was looking for.If UT goes "all in" on Gruden then yes I expect immediate, stellar performance. That is what you pay "top dollar" for. If the coffers have been emptied to pay him then top of the line performance is a requirement. If he is going to compete to win the SEC Championship then he better be able to put it on the field from day 1 because the alternative if he fails gets really ugly. See my earlier references to Watson Brown. Gruden will not hang around long if he were to see his "stock" on the decline. He can buy his own way out of a contract.
OK, I'll lay out my problem with Gruden if you are interested, otherwise simply disregard. Gruden, while certainly having strong NFL credentials, is unproven at a college level and there is a huge difference in succeeding between them. If we were to hire him, and IF the rebuilding road were not to be as smooth as some suggest, then would he hang around to finish the job or jump ship back to the NFL before his "stock" or contract potential fell? I question if it would be a wise hire, given we would have to pay a record price to get him, with the risks I have mentioned. Usually no one on here wants to discuss anything remotely anti Gruden to UT++Victory 2013. When I see that kind of closed minded attitude it always throws up a flag and I usually step into the fray. No harm intended.
Smart. You're right. I don't like it. Seriously, though. I would be fine with Patterson. I too prefer Strong now, over him, but Patterson is the coach I was hoping we'd go after when Kiffin left...in terms of one I thought we had a reasonable chance with. You won't like it.
That might be a legitimate point...but I haven't heard anyone complaining about coaching salaries in Bama's circles. The problem with Gru appears to be paying him and still having to pay the higher salary's of the coaches he would want to bring with.
