I say we pay Gruden a good chunk of money. Not a Saban and Bama type contract when they brought him in, but something really solid. And offer to possibly by out his ESPN contract if we can afford it.

Gruden has an out in his contract if he wants to return to coaching.

Why all the love for Gruden? His pedigree nor his record is overly impressive. His tv persona isn't all that either.

So if he were a son of a coach that won a NC and spoke about the Germans in press conferences you would like him better?

Gruden makes $4.3 million/year and is in Year1 of a five year deal. Gonna have to throw serious cash at him to lure him away from ESPN.

I wasn't impressed with Dooley either but he's who we got. I never mentioned him anyway. Sometimes you should be careful what you wish for because you just might get it but it won't be Gruden.

If it is not Gruden then it won't be what he wished for.

I guess people would be saying "he did it with Dooley's players though".

Then we could say at least Gruden got us to the SEC championship game.:)

Dooley can't even win a meaningful game during the reg.season(as of right now, still remains to be seen) much less get the Vols to an SEC championship game.

Thank you for your opinion and your contributions to keep the thread going, sir.

If this is fact, then we'll never see Gruden at Tennessee period. He'd have to be going to a team in a conference he can rule right away to think about leaving his contract money. This of course would mean he really wants to coach college ball. I can maybe see him coaching again in the NFL, but highly doubt he'd go to the college game making less or at best a little more than his ESPN deal.

He wanted 3.4 million to coach the U in 2010. It was a done deal , but they would not back his demands for a bigger recruiting budget. He also wanted access to a plane to help those efforts. They said no. He decided against it. I also think he got word of what was going on at Miami. I am on mobile , but you can google this if you don't believe me.

Now what team in college football has the biggest recruiting budget? Hmmm

Alabama?
Georgia?
Texas?

Can I use a lifeline?

Fact is , he loves coaching too much to stay in the booth much longer. I don't know if we get him , but I think our chances are better than people think.

Gruden vs muschamp in the swamp next year would be good entertainment.

May not be much fun for Muschamp looking across the field at Chucky as he is giving Muschamp one of his Chucky-like looks.:)
