Tennessee has lost a legend!!!!! Unreplaceable man! R.I.P Mr. Ward, thanks for bringing VOLS football to life for me and my Dad for many years. A big reason I'm a VOL fan to this day.

I don't think he's appreciated nearly enough for how good he was at basketball. His legacy is tied to the popularity of football, but he may be the best ever doing a basketball game. RIP to a good man.

Some of favorite basketball phrases of his from my youth:

"Pops... drops."

"Beaman... feeds it to Federmann."

"Ellis down low... Ellis... Unstoppable."

and of course:

"Bottom!"

It is a time to celebrate and amazing life, amazing man, and the best radio man to ever call a game

In my mind he is up above talking football with Bill Anderson while Bobby Denton tells them to pay these prices and pay no more.

I listened to so many games called by John Ward. I remember muting the TV and listening to his call even when the game was on TV just because his call was so much better than anything else. RIP John Ward you were one of a kind and we will miss you.

I truly feel sorry for anyone that didn't get to hear him call a game live.

I have no words.

Give. Him. Six.

"...blocked! Chasing after the ball who comes out of there with it...Tennessee will have possession, they're going to run with the football as it's picked away to the 25 to the 30, to the 35 to the 40...breaks to the outside!...to the 45 to the 50, to the 45 to the 40... Floyd Miley can fly...Floyd Miley has the ball at the 15, at the 10, at the 5, he has gone All. The. Way. Touchdown, Big Orange..."

(be sure to read the above without taking a breath)

Eh, hard to capture his passion with text, but you get the gist.

Prayers for the Ward family. He was one of my heroes growing up. Meeting John and his wife at a b-ball game (TBA/ 2007) and getting an autograph from him is one of my favorite TN sports memories. RIP

This feels surreal because I was up in the UT pressbox today and met Bob Kesling. He was telling stories about John and Pat Summit.

He deserves to have his name up inside the stadium along side Peyton’s , Reggie’s and all the rest .. he has earned it and is as much a part of Tennessee pride and tradition as they were . How can we make this happen ?

Great guy.I actually got to talk to him a half a dozen time or so over the years at the orange and white games. Got a few pictures with him too. One of the few people I have ever gone full on fanboy for.

The Voice may have stilled, but it will never be silenced.....

It will ring forever in the hearts and minds of those of us fortunate enough to have heard it. It will live forever in the replays of those iconic calls.

Rest easy, Mr. John Ward. Godspeed.
