John Palermo hired as DL coach

That's it, I'm sold.... because obviously Orakpo's NFL success is 100% on Palermo and had nothing to do with his freakishly athletic abilities... which were also on display all throughout college buuuuut you're right, all the credit goes to Palermo. Makes sense.

Kind of like Randy Moss right?

the NFC East laughs at your "THIS level" nonsense

Again, see post #390. Comparing 2 years in the NFL and coaching in the SEC are two completely different things.

It's not like the guy has spent 15-20 years coaching the position in the NFL... that is quality experience.. but 2 years? You guys are reaching.

Not to argue...... But Saban or Spurrier neither one had the talent to win in the NFL, but they seem to do alright in the SEC....

Kiffin was a failed two-year, err, one year and change, NFL experiment. Did you support that hire?

he was successful coaching DL in the NFL. Say it was only 2 years but it doesn't make the statement wrong in any way. Your "THIS level" claim just makes you look sillier than usual

I still haven't figured out if he was saying it is harder to coach in the NFL or in the SEC....

Here's his history since 91 for those trying to make an issue of it:

- Coached at Wisconsin for 15 years

- Left for Miami when Wisconsin's head coach left

- Left Miami when given an opportunity in the NFL

- Redskins coach fired and only opportunity at the time was at MTSU

- Left MTSU to seek a better opportunity

I'm sorry guys but this isn't the resume of a coach who is looking to leave. It's the resume of a normal person who leaves when given a better opportunity or when let go.

Those trying to make this hire out to be a home run are out of their mind.
Those trying to make this hire out to be a total miss are out of their mind.

Considering the state of our program these are the only types of hires we can get at this point. For God sakes we couldnt even hire a DC with current experience, not that SaL might not turn out good but just like any other coaches we have to hire , they are going to be mostly unproven at this point. At least Palermo does have a resume we can look at, good or bad, so with all things considered hard to argue with this hire. Lets just hope for the best.

For those interested. Palermo was at Wisconsin for 15 years. In July of 2005, Barry Alvarez decided to step down after the 2005 season. He picked Bret Beilema to be his replacement. Beilema would not tell any of the assistants their fate until after the season.

Palermo didn't like that too much.

“I have done absolutely nothing in recruiting (this season) because I refuse to put my good name out there and recruit somebody, with the assumption that I’m going to be here, and I didn’t know,” Palermo said. “The one thing about recruiting, particularly back East, it’s all about relationships. And if those people trust you, they trust you."

Coincidentally Beilema is another coach replacing 6 assitants this year.

Think we offered $6 mil...$8 mil ?

No idea. Of course I'm trying to think of any coach that would have guaranteed a return to greatness in two years.

Some analysts are projecting USCw to be a major contender for the NC next year. They credit Kiffin for putting the Trojans in this position. That same Lane looked at the situation in Knoxville and said it would get worse before it improved due to the inexperience and lack of depth.

Sounds like other coaches and analysts were saying the same. The situation would be especially dire with any key losses to injuries (guess what, that's what happened).

So, please tell me what $6 - 8 million man would have come to UT and absolutely turned it all around in 20 months.

UT's is now experiencing the best 4-year trend in recruiting since before 2002. If CDD does nothing else, at least the next coach will have a wealth of experienced talent to lead.

Oh it gets better... now our new DL coach is in the same league as Nick Saban, Monte Kiffin, AND John Wooden. Wait till the opposing forums get a hold of this.

You stated nothing about his coaching ability... you simply stated that because of his age he could not relate to today’s kids...

the replies point out the how wrong you are
