John Kelly to the Rams in 6th 176th overall

As clear as I was, you still missed it.

For a third time, I said that the Rams RB depth chart is so weak, he sucks if he can't crack it. That is a totally separate issue from $7K/week and whether he stays in school.

My point on the practice squad is that players don't come out early so they can make a practice squad and earn $7K/week for 2 or 3 yrs. If their goals are that low then they really ought to stay in school for 4 yrs and get that degree. That PS job will still be available to him in 2019.

As Butchna said, he didn't declare early simply to be on the practice squad, he got drafted. In the 6th round, in case you've already forgotten. I said he would still end up on a practice squad as a worst case scenario.

His degree will also still be there for him whenever he chooses, you can't say the same about a career in the NFL. But, you know, he might not have as much fun when he goes back to college so who knows if it would really be worth it at all...

If he came back with the attitude he showed in 2016, he'd get plenty of work in the Vols backfield. I doubt the Vols are so stacked at RB that they couldn't use JK

I'm not trying to hear your point because my brother Charles was a 1st round pick out of high school and turned it down to go to college and yea it was a gamble but he got a chance to grow and get a education and he still got drafted in the 1st round again out of Miami. Kelly should of stayed and got better. This a perfect system for him.

It doesn’t seem to be the perfect system for Ty Chandler...a similar back. He wouldn’t have gotten BETTER sharing carries. And baseball is a whole different world of choices.

I want my players hungry and trying to preserve their pro potential doesn’t lend to that. You don’t know anything about Vols history so I’ll have to explain this example. We had an elite WR prospect who injured his knee early in his sophomore season. Explosive, fearless DAWG! That was before. He rehabbed and came back his junior season but alligator armed passes he used to alpha male seize. He was protecting his health for the NFL. Drafted reasonably high but has never been close to the receiver he was. Once the NFL is in their head they go into safe mode. The only way is down from there. I was disappointed from a purely selfish aspect that JK went into the draft. I think, if he stays healthy, he could be one of the steals of the draft. Dude is 110% on every play, high motor. From his point of view, I don't blame him for moving on. Best of luck to JK in the NFL.

His strenghts would be feautured alongside Gurley making for a real dangerous as a 1-2 punch. The Rams will let Gurley be the bruiser and take the workhorse of the load, and Kelley be the pass-catching shifty compliment. This preserves Kelley's longevity and also compliments his ability.

No doubt about it, the Rams will have one of the top backfields in the league!

Kelly won't get the playing time in LA that Kamara gets with NO. Plus, as good as Kamara has been so far, part of that reason is because he doesn't have to carry the full load.

How many times do we have to disprove you and your "outliers should be treated as the norm" approach. I posted this on 1/14/17.

Some interesting draft related numbers as of the 2014 season.(all positions)

87% of first round selections playing five years or more.
80% of All Pro and Pro Bowl selections are from the first three rounds
50% of All Pro and Pro Bowl selections come from the first round
Setting the bar lower, nearly 70% of games started come from players drafted in the first three rounds

Of particular interest are those bits which show a PROFOUND correlation between being a very good (Pro Bowl) caliber player and being selected in the higher rounds.

Here's more, for the 2016 Pro Bowl:

61% of the First Team All Pro were 1st rounders. 39% were top 10 overall picks. 78% were at least 2nd rounders. Only 3 came from outside the top 100 picks.

For 1st and 2nd team combined 53% were 1st rounders and 74% were at least 2nd rounders. Only 14% of 1st and 2nd team All Pros (offense and defense) came from outside the top 100 picks.

Barring someone else looking it up I'll look into last year's PB but I'm guessing it'll show similar numbers.

I was right about Alvin Kamara being a Marshall Faulk type player. I'll be right about John Kelly being the next Priest Holmes as well.

I don't know when it will happen, but John Kelly will have a stretch of 2-3 years where he will be one of the top RBs in the NFL.

He has Priest Holmes level talent.

Clinching to a single claim to validate yourself is getting old. Plus, AK has only been good for one season so you're whole Faulk comparison is no where near right. However, Kamara will have a great career barring injury.
