John Kelly Declares for NFL Draft

While he'll probably be a mid round draft pick, I think a team will wind up with a sleeper.

I don't think it's a bad decision on his part. Unless we have a great year, I don't think they're is really a benefit. If we have a mediocre season, he would probably just stay the same.

Thanks for the Memories JK! Big Blow , Pruitt must be garbage. We kept Gillespie and kelly still leaves. That should tell you about the new staffs vision and offensive scheme.

I wish him the best but running backs have been slowly moving down the draft board for the last few years and 2018 looks to have an especially deep draft class that could include:

1) Saquon Barkley - Penn State (Height 5'11" Weight 223 lbs - Projected top 10 pick)

2) Bryce Love - Stanford (Height 5'10" Weight 196 lbs - Projected late first round)

3) Kerryon Johnson - Auburn (Height 6'0" Weight 212 lbs - Projected early 2nd round)

4) Nick Chubb - Georgia (Height 5'10" Weight 220 lbs - Projected early 2nd round)

5) Derrius Guice - LSU (Height 5'11" Weight 212 lbs - Projected mid to late 2nd round)

6) Damien Harris - Alabama (Height 5-11" Weight 214 lbs - Projected late 2nd round)

7) Sony Michel - Georgia (Height 5'11" Weight 212 lbs - Projected late 3rd round)

8) Akrum Wadley - Iowa (Height 5'11" Weight 191 lbs - Projected early 4th round)

9) L.J. Scott - Michigan St - (Height 6'1" Weight 230 lbs - Projected mid 4th round)

10) Ronald Jones II - USC - (Height 6'0" Weight 200 lbs - Projected 5th round)

I would be very surprised if John Kelly was drafted ahead of any of these RB's. He really could have used another year.

It's more about getting to that 2nd and 3rd contract, IMO. The difference in pay from 6th to 4th round isn't worth waiting for when your career is most liikely over by age 27.

Scott is staying, btw

He probably won’t get drafted

Saints draft evaluator tweeted he thinks Kelly goes mid / late 3rd.

JK wants to get paid. RG being retained puts no money in JK's pocket.

Of course I wish him well but I’ve learned with running back‘s we don’t see what the NFL sees... they know more about what they’re doing obviously than we do and usually they’re correct on their assessments ....hopefully John will get drafted and have a long good career which is not that long for running back these days .... honestly think if Ty Chandler can get a little stronger this off-season he’ll be fine next year ....

Not ready, needs another year in the weight room....

I agree, I don't think he's anywhere near ready. However probably wants to get out of the organization with all the changes and who knows what the offense will even look like next year. Hedging his bets on this one!

He showed what he can do with a full workload in an SEC game against UK. I think he can handle it. Especially after an off season of training and conditioning. Imo he is heading towards a 1000 Yd season.

I think he should have gotten a lot more touches this year.

No doubt he can run for 1,000 yards, no doubt. Gotta put on 10-12 more good pounds and I do think he needs to split the load. He showed outstanding ability last year, especially vs Kentucky. But 1 game isn’t 12, and while I agree he can be outstanding, he’s not a 225lb bellcow capable of 20-25 carries per game at this point. Jmo.

I don't understand why we just think its fine that our Juniors seem to go pro, but Kirby keeping Michele and Chubb and getting them to stay for their senior year, when they were projected much higher than JK, shows what it takes to win. UGA wouldn't be in the CFP if those two declared last year.

May not be fine, but it is his decision.i am fine with him understanding that supporting his family takes priority.

Agreed. This is totally different from a situation like Tyler Bray (who could've helped his draft stock immensely if he'd stayed another year); runningbacks have the shortest NFL careers to begin with, and staying for another year would risk a serious injury that could keep him from getting to the league in the first place (see, e.g., Marcus Lattimore).

You gotta think this comes down to how he performs at the Combine... I could see him being drafted anywhere from 3rd to undrafted! There are a lot of good running backs in this years draft and if we are being truthful not sure he is in the top 10-15 of them... hope he does well but kinda think this is a mistake.

I could see someone taking a flier on him in 6th or 7th round. But effort guys like him are a dime a dozen in NFL training camps.

Keeping players till Sr season and not in the pros is"what it takes to win"? Alrighty then. :eek:lol:

Hey, Mr. 5 star. I know you're looking for a school to get your to the league. Come to UT and we'll keep you in college for an extra year for our sakes. It will cost you a few million or two, but we'll win more. Wanna sign up?

Well to be honest, we had a lot of guys come back for the 2016 season because we were expecting to possibly be a playoff team after playing like one in 2015. When you’re expected to contend for a championship players will more than likely come back. We’re not expected to do squat next year so I have no problem with it.
