John Kelly Declares for NFL Draft

Is Banks going to be quick enough to be Chandlers backup? This could be a nice one/two like Hurd/Kamara was supposed to be. Banks 6'2" bruiser with Chandlers speed...

IMO, Banks is going be what most future Tennessee Backs look like. Like Alabama they are going to be 6'1-6'3 and 220/230+

Think Derrick Henry 6'3, Bo Scarbrough 6'2, Najee Harris 6'2 with the occasional 5'11 215/220 bowling ball.

He would do great in a place like Seattle or Green Bay with a good line and established QB.

I wish JK well but there were signs this year that he had a little bit of an attitude problem. Frankly he is doing what's best for him and I think that translates to what is best for the team.

Good luck to him. Chandler is going to have a monster year.

Love me some Ty Chandler but I’m a little, just a little, concerned about whether or not Ty can handle 20 touches a game. I’m thinking Ty and Jordan, with a little CFA sprinkled in will be the recipe. Running back by committee with an emphasis on Chandler imo. And then if freshman Banks is what we think he may be.....that’s a good stable. But Ty is definitely the most dynamic runner we have with outstanding breakaway ability.

All that said, I’m infinitely considered about a bad OL....that ain’t getting fixed in 1 year.

I wish him the best but running backs have been slowly moving down the draft board for the last few years and 2018 looks to have an especially deep draft class that could include:

1) Saquon Barkley - Penn State (Height 5'11" Weight 223 lbs - Projected top 10 pick)

2) Bryce Love - Stanford (Height 5'10" Weight 196 lbs - Projected late first round)

3) Kerryon Johnson - Auburn (Height 6'0" Weight 212 lbs - Projected early 2nd round)

4) Nick Chubb - Georgia (Height 5'10" Weight 220 lbs - Projected early 2nd round)

5) Derrius Guice - LSU (Height 5'11" Weight 212 lbs - Projected mid to late 2nd round)

6) Damien Harris - Alabama (Height 5-11" Weight 214 lbs - Projected late 2nd round)

7) Sony Michel - Georgia (Height 5'11" Weight 212 lbs - Projected late 3rd round)

8) Akrum Wadley - Iowa (Height 5'11" Weight 191 lbs - Projected early 4th round)

9) L.J. Scott - Michigan St - (Height 6'1" Weight 230 lbs - Projected mid 4th round)

10) Ronald Jones II - USC - (Height 6'0" Weight 200 lbs - Projected 5th round)

I would be very surprised if John Kelly was drafted ahead of any of these RB's. He really could have used another year.

NFL Draft | Vols RB John Kelly to declare for NFL Draft - Rotoworld.com

Tennessee junior RB John Kelly will declare for the 2018 NFL Draft.

This is an unfortunate turn of events for new Vols HC Jeremy Pruitt. We'd heard Kelly was leaning towards declaring earlier in the campaign, though we thought he might have a change of heart due to a misdemeanor marijuana possession citation in October and a poor second half as Tennessee's offense cratered amid all the Butch Jones drama. The 5-foot-9, 212-pound Kelly isn't a burner, which will hurt his draft positioning, but he is extremely tough and versatile. Kelly was a broken tackle machine at Tennessee who provided value in the passing game. He finished with 778 yards rushing and nine touchdowns and a 37-299-0 receiving line in 2017 after stepping into the RB1 role. Kelly's stock is heavily dependent on his testing numbers and interviews. Amid a deep RB class, he looks like a Day 3 pick that could potentially slip out of the draft altogether if his tests are poor. Ty Chandler figures to take over as Tennessee's starting RB next fall, though he'll be pushed by Carlin Fils-aime

He’ll be a steal for some team in the middle rounds I think. Hard to play another free year with the shelf life of nfl running backs

Films-Aime was a twig last year...looked the same in fall camp. Doesn't take a genius to call that.

Well considering Trey Coleman was 247 ranked .8559 and was beat out by Tim Jordan who was ranked .8179 and our lowest ranked recruit, It's not hard to imagine a freshman beating him out also.

He showed what he can do with a full workload in an SEC game against UK. I think he can handle it. Especially after an off season of training and conditioning. Imo he is heading towards a 1000 Yd season.

I think he should have gotten a lot more touches this year.

I’ve seen a few people say his speed isn’t that good but didn’t he clock like 22mph in spring practice? I don’t really recall seeing him get caught from behind either

Dang. Would have loved to have seen him another year in orange, but probably the right call. I don't think he'll have the coming out party Kamara is having, but he will be a mid round steal.

wish nothing but the best for JK! True vfl.. Will be a good back for a team... Would have liked to see him with our new staff but can't blame him. With all the backs know the draft I can see him being undrafted but making a team non the less. Thanks for all u do!

One year as the starter on a 4-8 team which was winless in conference play isn't the foundation that I would think it would take to get a big deal in the NFL.

I think he's smart enough to realize that and it's telling as to what he thinks the immediate future of the team will be.

2018 is going to be a rough one.

I hope everyone can hold on and be patient.....but at the same time.....if we see the same GLARING red flags that we saw in years 1 and 2 with Botch Jones.....let's cut bait and run early.
