At Kansas State

Currie administers K-State Athletics’ projected $71 million budget, manages 165 employees and maintains relations with 450 student athletes. He has cultivated relationships with alumni and donors, and his department projected a $4.4 million budget increase for the 2016 fiscal year. Since Currie's arrival at KSU, the school's athletics budget has increased by $26 million over its 2010 budget of $44.1 million. KSU's athletics budget has had a surplus for six consecutive years.[3]

Awards and achievements

Kansas State won or shared Big 12 Conference championships in football, men’s basketball and baseball in the 2012–2013 academic year, and Currie was honored as one of four 2013 Under Armour Athletic Directors of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.[4] The university has invested $190 million in new and upgraded facilities, including the West Stadium Center at Bill Snyder Family Stadium and a basketball training venue. In May 2015, a new football complex was under construction which was scheduled to open in September.[5] In a letter to supporters dated June 30, 2015, Currie wrote that the KSU athletics department's first goal was to provide "A World-Class Student-Athlete Experience".[6]

How do you know any of this is true? Anyone could change it

Blackburn is a lesser version of Currie - Tennessee roots, successful as associate AD and moved to another job as head AD to get experience.

Currie did it at KState. Blackburn did it at UTC.

Currie has raised literally millions of more dollars, negotiated contracts worth literally millions of more dollars, and has built facilities that cost literally millions of more dollars than Blackburn.

This is a slam dunk hire.

This! I'm all in!

Under Hamilton.

I'll hold my praises until I see what he does if or when Jones is fired.

Jones will be here for a few more years, regardless of who was hired as AD. I look forward to the new AD. I have been told that Davenport was not one who stood out at Perdue when she was there, but I think she is off to a good start at Tennessee.

Currie has done an excellent job as a fundraiser at K-State. Only knock on him was he ran on their basketball coach Frank Martin (now at USCjr), but in all fairness, Frank is a difficult personality.

I'm not going to hold him accountable for what Hamilton did at Tennessee. We've all discussed how Hamilton was just a puppet to the boosters. Also, how much control could he really have over his boss. In my opinion, he probably left for K State to get away from Hamilton and the eventual collapse he was leading the AD towards.

I've not seen anything about coaches hating him. It seems contrary since he helped measly K State raise millions of more dollars and upgrade their facilities across all sports.

Basilio may be full of crap, but he's saying he has text saying neither Barnes nor butch are happy about this hire.

Lol...of course they hired someone other than the two people anyone was talking about.

Not a bad hire, I just think these people at UT are hilarious.

Does anyone know who torpedoed Blackburn? Somebody (or somebodies) behind the scenes blocked the Blackburn hire. It just seems like we have people in power who do not want to see success in UT athletics.

It was more of a shot at Hammy not Jones I'd rather not have Dooley 2.0

So, why was this guy never mentioned as a possibility, if he was basically Blackburn 2.0 or Blackburn++ ?? How is this out of left field? Sounds like he has done a good job at K State.
